The whole experience was pretty close to flawless. Good communication/information both before the trip by the company and during the trip by the upbeat guide. The itinerary was great, challenging but not too aggressive. Food was good, gear was clean. We were disappointed that Plateau Point was closed so we missed that part of the itinerary, but that was due to the Park Service, not the tour company.

If this is a TLDR for some of you, I’ll summarize: 5/5 highly recommend.

First of all, I booked this trip for the beginning of the season in 2023, and it ended up getting canceled because there was too much snow on the north rim. Luckily, my plane tickets were refundable (I would advise this due to the variable nature of nature). Adam and his team did a great job of communicating with me and getting me set up for this year.

I was very intimidated going into this trip - zero camping experience, I hate being too hot, and I don’t typically carry much when I hike. So carrying 40 pounds in 90 degree heat was not appealing to me. But it was amazing. Katie was so supportive and inspiring, in addition to being a patient guide and a killer camp cook. She didn’t stop going until all of us were comfortable.

In terms of logistics, the first day is looong - 7 hours to the north rim, and then a 7 mile downhill hike to the first camp. The next few days are much more manageable and pleasant, with available side treks if you’re game. Because it gets so hot, guides will try to get you to camp by noon.

Groups are small, no more than 5. So no worries about getting left behind, though you still need to train.

We backpacked with Discovery Treks on the 3 day Cremation Canyon hike. Our guides, Uphill Phil and Brittney were amazing. Phil's knowledge of the canyon was incredible. Their personalities and expertise made the trip perfect. From the time of my first email, the company did everything to make our trip flawless. They reached out numerous times to keep us informed and to answer any questions we had. I would highly recommend DIscovery Treks for any Grand Canyon trip.

This was an incredible, life changing experience! The whole trip ran very smoothly and Keenan was an excellent guide. He was highly prepared, knowledgable and supportive in whatever ways we needed him to be. The views were incredible and the food prepared by Keenan was delicious! Nutritious food is important to me and I had no idea that I was going to eat so well! I am grateful that I genuinely trained for this trip because it allowed me to ENJOY myself while I experienced the Grand Canyon! I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys being active and wants to experience the canyon from below the rim!

This was my first backpacking trip and the choice of grand canyon hike to the river was challenging. Our guide, Katie made this trip more enjoyable, memorable and manageable. She ensured that we took all safety precautions like proper hydration, taking adequate stops during the hike, ensuring that we are comfortable with our hiking pace and constant encouragement to keep us going. I highly recommend Discovery Treks tor your next adventure. Hiking the trails in Grand Canyon are challenging and of course adequate training is individual responsible. Appropriate training regime was provided so that we were able to finish this challenging hike.

Grand Canyon Hike to the River & Back ~ I highly recommend Discovery Trek for an adventure backpacking trip. Everything is clearly describe, equipment easy to use, delicious prepared food and most import a trained guide. I feel the guide can make or break the trip. Jimmy never made me feel too old celebrating my 60th. His positive attitude is not taught, from beginning to end his personality shined through. He worked so hard to make this a trip of a lifetime not just for me but everyone in our group. My daughter has already signed up for a 5-day backpacking trip along the Tahoe Rim Trail, confident to join the group solo. She has also signed up for wilderness first aid training all due to conversations she had with Jimmy.
Thank you, mom & daughter

Everything about our adventure to the Grand Canyon was perfect! From the initial communications and training guidance(highly recommend you follow) to the drop off back at our hotel everything ran like clockwork. The trip itself was amazing!! The views, the wildlife and campgrounds all were amazing. And our guide Keenan was icing on the cake. He was professional, friendly, informative and a fabulous camp cook. And most importantly he made sure everything ran smoothly and kept us from doing anything stupid.

We camped at the top of the canyon and left early next morning. Spent three days hiking down south Kaibab and back up bright angel trail.

Downhill was easiest for me and up hill last couple days were easier for rest of our group.

If you are going to embark on this trip make sure you train as instructed. We really feel like the more you train for this hike the more fun your experience will be. We trained for approximately 12 weeks total with my wife being religious about it and me being fairly diligent in addition to our regular exercise activities. As a result it felt like her hike was easier for her than for me.

The views are of course breathtaking and if you haven’t been to the Grand Canyon before you truly won’t understand how huge the canyon truly is.

There are multiple water stops and restrooms along the way which breaks up the legs of the hike and allows you to top off your water supply or use rest rooms.

We got super lucky with weather as early June can be brutally hot on trail but we hiked early and had cloud cover during some of the hike and every afternoon which made for just perfect temps.

Our guide Keenan was awesome, super accommodating, very helpful and had a ton of interesting canyon information about things along the trail.

Our food first morning was snacks and very light. Every other meal was prepared by Keenan and was very frail appropriate, tasty after hiking and there was more than enough to go around at every meal. I’m not a big curry fan but you don’t want to miss out on Keenan’s Canyon Curry!

We felt like we were very well equipped, but can’t stress enough u need to bring an air mattress with you as the foam pad we had was horrible. Tent, pack and rest of our equipment were great for us novice hikers, allowing us to carry our 30-35lb packs and be reasonably comfortable during the hike.

We felt we had a great overall experience, from our shuttle driver and van all the way thru to our way back up the top of the canyon. Highly recommend.
