Enjoy a challenging trek through one of the longest and most famous gorges in Europe. On this excursion from Rethymno you’ll marvel at natural wonders throughout the day, from the White Mountains to thousand-year-old forests and more.
Your escort will be there to explain all the necessary information about your hike and provide you the tickets for the entrance and ferry boat. Entrance fee : 5€ (children up to the age of 15 years old are free of charge). Ferry fee : 13€ ( Sougia ferry). These fees have to be paid to the guide upon arrival.
After your breakfast you enter the Samaria Gorge. At the end of the trek you’ll visit the village of Agia Roumeli, where you’ll find a number of taverns, bars and shops. Enjoy some free time to take a swim or have some lunch.
Late in the afternoon you’ll board a boat that will take you from Agia Roumeli to Sfakia, where the bus will be waiting to transfer you back to the starting point.

The easy bus pick up outside our hotel. The safe cool nice bus ride. Pia our guide who was very helpful. The hike was one of the most amazing things I have done. The fresh water and food along the way. The ferry ride home.

They won't take responsibility for not collecting me for the tour I paid for. My screenshots clearly show I am being picked up form my hotel at 6:20am - not a time someone willingly gets up on holiday. No one collected me and when I contacted them via the app they told me I should have checked my emails as this wasn't the pick up location. They won't issue me a refund. As most people, I don't check my emails on holiday. Disappointed to say the least.

Beautiful environment. Must experience!! Make sure you have good-fitting walking shoes. That don't slide. Cut your toenails short so that they do not touch the toe of the shoe. This is because it is a descent of 13 km. About rocks. Quite steep. We went in May. Then the temperature is perfect for this trip. The next day you will notice it in your legs. But it's definitely worth it!!!

The hike 21 km (not 16 km!). Beautiful views with challenging terrain. Tight schedule.
The gorge itself and the hike fantastic but the description of the hike does not match the reality.

Poor choice of pick up location and drop off location. The Gerani bus stop is on the highway. There was no place to park our rental car safely so we worried throughout the tour about the car. On the drop off the guide and driver said they could not drop us off at the same place as our car. They said it was not safe for them to stop there. Apparently, it was safe for us to walk 500 meters uphill on a very dark and busy highway after having already hiked 10 miles that day!. A much safer pickup and drop off should have been arranged. We are upset by the lack of concern for our safety.

Booked the tour from Platanos Tours online. Got an email with clear information about the pickup near hotel, all the info to prepare for the hike. Everything went smoothly. The tour guide was very friendly, spoke fluent English French German Greek and maybe more languages 🙂 The guide took care of the entrance and boat tickets (cash needed). If you don't have cash, you can buy tickets yourself, it's the same price. As for the Samaria gorge itself - it was as amazing as stated in other reviews. You must bring good quality shoes (hiking shoes preferable)- no Converse or other city style shoes for this hike. The path is very rocky and the feet hurt.
It's not difficult for those who are fit and used to hike. For more regular people - it's quite challenging because of rocky path. You must be generally fit for such a hike. And expect some sore muscles afterwards, especially calves 🙂

Very beautiful, a bit tiring track. But during last phase of track view is rally amazing. I would recommend this track. You have to be fit (not suprer fit)
