Recently restored, Fort Saint-Jean is a historical monument dating back to the 12th century, and a great place to indulge in scenic strolls through its gardens, and enjoy stunning views of the Mediterranean coastline. A 130-meter long rooftop walkway links the fort to the Museum of the Civilisations of Europe and the Mediterranean - colloquially known as the MuCEM -, the centrepiece of Marseille’s stint as European Capital Culture in 2013. Cathédrale Sainte-Marie-Majeure de Marseille or Cathédrale de la Major is a Roman Catholic cathedral, and a national monument of France, located in Marseille. It has been a basilica minor since 1896. La Vieille Charité is a former almshouse, now functioning as a museum and cultural centre, situated in the heart of the old Panier quarter of Marseille in the south of France. Constructed between 1671 and 1749 in the Baroque style to the designs of the architect Pierre Puget, it comprises four ranges of arcaded galleries in three storeys surrounding a space with a central chapel surmounted by an ovoid dome. Besides its name, the history of this house is a curiosity in itself. Located just behind the City Hall, the Maison Diamantée (Diamond House) owes its name to its facade of pointed stones. It was built between the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century (perhaps 1570 but there is still some doubt). This makes it one of the oldest houses in Marseille with the Hôtel Cabre. It was built on the demand of wealthy Italian and Spanish traders. With its architectural beauty and style inspired by the Medici Italy, it has long housed the famous Marseilles families such as the Saboulin. Questo is a very nice and funny way to visit a city. We played as soon as we arrived in a couple of hours so to have an overview of the city. The day after we decided what to look into in a deeper way.

So sad to say thieves are so many here. In a square was strewn wallets and bags after being snatched and no police presence. Looks like the way now in European towns. Beware on cruise ships easy targets

Walking in areas that we may not have seen. Could have been extended by a couple of more sites. Questions were okay after the first one was worked out
