Ilha Grande is a huge nature reserve so I was expecting a nature focussed trip. This was not the tour I was looking for. It was mostly a party on a boat with a big coach trip to get there and back.
Between all the hotel pickups and the admin at the port, it took 5 hours from pickup time to actually getting on the boat. 3.5 hours to get back.
The boat was pirate themed. It had a DJ and a big soundsystem with cheesy dance music and a bar in the middle. In the evening, you could go upstairs where it was quieter but there was no shade so not really a fun option through the day.
On the plus side, snorkeling with the fish in the lagoon was really beautiful. You should definitely pay the extra for the snorkelling kit (or bring your own). The guide was professional and spoke good English (although less clear if you went off script).
The main beach stop was super weird - there are two houses at the back of the beach with big fences to keep the tourists out so you are basically fenced on to the beach.
The food was basic but tasty - buffet with good salads, carbs, a couple of differen chicken stews and some fried fish. This is advertised as lunch but is actually about 4pm so make sure you bring snacks or pay for something to eat on the boat.

All of the excursions, Angre dos Reis, illha Grande and the blue Lagoon.I loved the atmosphere on the boat and it had a real pirate theme with plenty of drinking and food to eat.A great day out.

The good: The tour had some good moments, the tour is essentially 4 islands and the landscape and beauty is gorgeous....but one thing you should know is logistically it is a long way from Rio....because of traffic snarls the bus ride there took 3 hours and the return was 6 hours!
The bad: At the start it felt like we are on a booze cruise....and whilst some were enjoying the vibe we were not. I also felt like there was pressure to buy all these "extras", like life jackets, photos and snorkel equipment in advance (so they can process your payment on the bus whilst they still have signal). Our tour guide was trying his best to be helpful, so I will give him that but just be prepared...this will be one very long day.

Will be 5 star if not stress in the morning with pick up. No communication between travel agency about be late. The bus coming hour later for pick up,we waiting from 7:20 to 8:20 . I try to contact agency to speak with answering machine. Terrific experience for some one who have aspergers disorder and anxiety. My stress level go over the roof. To the point when I just wanted to back to hotel. Then Mary or Maria tour guide lady show . She is true treasure for this company. She convinced us to still go,and make our last full day in Rio very special. She treat us better like royalty. Provide outstanding service and care ,specially we been only people who speak English on whole tour .She translate from Portuguese all information what we needed. I will strongly suggest to put time window ( let say pick up its between 7:30 and 8:30 but u need to be the latest 7:40) on pick up point to avoid stress ,because if we know it before can be delay ( trafic,people late)on pick up we will patiently waiting. Back to the tour its absolutely excellent the islands have fillings of Caribbean beautiful sandy beaches. Ship its comfortable and spacious, drinks delightful, food good. The cherry on the cake is sunsets on the way back. But one more time this not be happening if not Mary small angel from I think Argentina. She its absolutely star

Great! On time and the guide was super kind. Beautiful tour! Be patient with restaurant lines. Food could be better, but nice.

Due to poor weather conditions I reached out to the company to inquire as to whether or not the tour would be cancelled. I understand it is difficult to manage weather, however as a solo traveler with limited time in the country I wanted to have verification so that I would be able to arrange for alternative plans in the event that it was cancelled. I reached out to the company several times before the departure and I never heard back. I received no confirmation that the tour would still be running and ultimately did not make the tour. I still have not heard back and expect to be refunded for this excursion.

Whilst the views were amazing and we visited many lovely islands , the hosts didn’t give much insight into the history of the areas we were passing through . It seemed they were just trying to get on with the trip . Also be ware of additional costs for absolutely everything, even life jackets if you can’t swim in the sea ( which I think should be a necessity).
I have done tours with viator in many countries and usually the hosts are passionate about their city and will tell you a lot of interesting facts but for a 14 hour day I don’t think I learned anything new which is a shame .
