During this tour we will visit some historical temples in Ayutthaya and afterwards continue to Lopburi to visit the famous monkey-temple.

Ayutthaya, a kingdom that existed from 1350 to 1767, is a fantastic destination for culture lovers. During these four centuries, the country grew into the nation of Siam (the former name of Thailand), which roughly occupied the territory of modern Thailand, with the exception of the Lanna kingdom in northern Thailand.

Lopburi is one of Thailand’s oldest cities, being inhabited continuously since the Dvaravati era, that started 15 centuries ago. During the 10th century Lopburi became part of the Khmer empire. The Khmers built a number of impressive monuments, many of which still exist today.
During the reign of King Narai the Great in the second half of the 17th century, Lopburi was made the second capital of the Ayutthaya Kingdom.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Wat Mahathat is believed to be one of Ayutthaya's oldest temples. The temple include remains of important old buildings such as pagodas, octagonal pagodas, royal hall, small temples, murals under a Bodhi tree, and the famous sand-stone Ayutthaya-style head of the Buddha image in a tree's root. Please note: Entrance fee of THB 50 per person is not included and has to be paid cash.

Wat Phra Sri Sanphet is situated on the city island in Ayutthaya’s World Heritage park. The three main chedis which have been restored contain the ashes of three Ayutthaya kings. It has been registered as a national historic site by the Fine Arts Department. Please note: Entrance fee of THB 50 per person is not included and has to be paid cash. *** The total duration includes traveling time from Bangkok to Ayutthaya. ***

Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon was founded in the second half of the 14th century during the reign of King U Thong, first ruler of Ayutthaya. Highlight of the monastery is its very large imposing prang dominating the area. century. During the Burmese invasion of 1767 the temple was largely destroyed. Please note: Entrance fee of THB 20 per person is not included and has to be paid cash.

The Phra Prang Sam Yot was built when Lopburi was under the control of the Khmer empire from Angkor. The monument was likely founded in the late 12th or early 13th century. Phra Prang Sam Yot is Lopburi’s best known landmark and one of its oldest. It is one of several monuments that date back to the Khmer era. The monument in the center of Lopburi town is perhaps best known for the large number of monkeys that run around free, constantly on the lookout for food. Please note: Entrance fee of THB 50 per person is not included and has to be paid cash. The total duration includes traveling time from Ayutthaya to Lopburi.

Walking around the old town, you’ll discover ancient Khmer-style temple ruins, Buddhist temples with gleaming Buddha statues, and you’ll be deeply immersed in the unique local Thai atmosphere. This was a fantastic day trip from Bangkok to Lapburi, Ayutthaya and a few other temples too.
Our guide Sunday was very knowledgeable and had lots of stories and information about every place we visited. He told us about the history of the temples and also gave us an insight into Buddhist Thailand and the traditions.
We were half considering taking a train Lopburi as this was cheaper but actually it would have been impossible with the heat and the children, and also we got taken to 5 different places in the end, all spread out and all interesting, and that would have been impossible by ourselves.
It was just a great day trip, in a really comfortable air conditioned bus. I really recommend it.

Such a fun day! I loved getting to learn more about Thai history in Ayutthaya in the morning and the temples there were beautiful. Piya was a great guide and led us safely around the monkey area in the afternoon. The monkeys were very engaged and kept jumping on us and playing. I would bring a spare change of clothes, hand sanitizer, and maybe body wipes for after the monkeys.

Great tour! We had Piya as our guide and he was very knowledgeable about all of the temples and palaces we visited. Able to answers any and all questions. The monkey temple was an amazing experience. There are a lot of monkeys so prepare yourself! They will jump on you but if you are calm and friendly so are they. Just beware if you have long hair they may grab at it and pull a little, but you can shake them off if you need. Overall great day!

Great experience! Piya was so kind. Before going, we were quite worried about the length of the drive but the van was very comfortable. Piya is a pro at taking photos and makes sure to get you all the best shots. If you do this tour, expect to get dirty (bring hand sanitizer/wipes) and be ready to take off all loose clothings (the monkeys are grabbers!)

Piya was an amazing tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about everything and was excited to teach us about the history and culture. He's also a pro photographer! He knows all the angles, lighting, and contrast he was saying. Expect your phone to be loaded with lots of high quality images!

This is by far the best tour I have ever been on! Our guide Piya shared the history, culture and most of all, the laughs. He knows all of the best photo spots, all the monkeys love him, and he is so friendly. It was such a great tour to learn about the history of Ayutthaya and have fun while doing it.

Piya is awesome! Bring an extra t shirt in case a monkey pees on you. This tour was incredible. I loved loved the monkeys and lots of time at many old ruins and temples along the way. If you are near China town it is even better because you can walk to their office. Or they will pick you up otherwise

We were picked up at the hotel on time. Our Piya Guide always kept an eye on everything and explained everything from the pickup itinerary to all the details in each place we visited. We took good pictures in the places. Stops were made to go eat, go to the bathroom. They gave us a bottle of cold water. Recommended.
