The Monte Faito tour is of pure passion; suitable for true bicycle enthusiasts and especially for trained athletes. The tour will begin by taking the SS 145 state road north. We will travel about 3 km, but immediately after the descent of this first climb we will turn right to take the municipal road that will take us to the first ramps of the Lattari Mountains. Even if you have just started, a first stop will be a must: the panorama, in any weather, will be spectacular.
Enchanted by the landscape, you will continue to pedal along a road that climbs more and more. After about 20 km we will arrive in Moiano, a small mountain village from which the actual climb will begin with stretches that will touch peaks of 12% slope: about 7 km of pure adrenaline will take us to the plain of Monte Faito. The landscape is breathtaking, the sound of nature and the scent of the fields will allow us an extraordinary regenerating stop.

This is an amazing tour up to Monte Faito, about 15 km up and back, a bit over 30 km round trip. I cycle this distance a lot at home in Atlanta GA and there are plenty of challenging hills, but this was a first experience for me, climbing around 1700 ft. one way, with only a few flat areas to recover along the way.
Fabio and his colleague Pietro prepared the bikes and picked me up at a location about 20 minutes from the starting point. Cycling in Italy was not part of my itinerary at first so I did not bring anything with me. I was nervous about renting all the gear, but it was all in great condition and fit well.
Pietro guided my tour and gave excellent tips for using and conserving energy throughout the climb. I felt no pressure to achieve any specific time, and I was able to pace the ride so that I enjoyed the challenging climb without ever feeling like I was running out of energy.
The ride is beautiful, moving through little villages at first and then into a forest with tall trees and lots of shade and cool areas. It was mid-July during a heat wave and this was one of my experiences where dealing with the heat did not become my main focus, even with stretches of road fully exposed to the sun. Throughout the ride, the views of Sorrento and Vico Equense become more and more picturesque. Pietro pointed out the different sights we were seeing in the valley. He had excellent knowledge of the geography of the place.
When you reach Monte Faito there is a little coffee shop where we were able to rest, take in the view, and have espresso before returning. The downhill ride took less than half the time, and it was fast and fun. If you like downhill riding and gaining lots of speed you will love this reward. After about 20 minutes down, we could see the top of the mountain and we had already made it most of the way back. I was sad when it was over.
