The trip offers a great opportunity to experience Vietnamese culture and to meet local people in their real life. My husband and I were amazed at warmth and generosity we experienced from the people during the trip, and we also learned so much.
Cai Rang market and boat station is 2.5h drive from Ho Chi Minh, but so worth it! We were picked up in a very comfortable, air conditioned car so the journey went fast. We had a breakfast of noodles on a boat - local style, and were indulged with ripe jackfruit, rice cakes, coffee etc etc - all prepared and served on the river. Visit to a real trading boat with a working family of a Mum and three daughters was so insightful about the daily life on the river and resourcefulness of the families.

The day was so relaxing yet packed with activities. We loved seeing backwater canals, visiting rice noodle factory and coconut candy factory (so tasty!), walking among small local farms on the shore or picking mangosteens and rambutans straight from a tree, but my favourite was a visit to a farm house where we met a local family, cooked lunch (well, my husband found his way to a hammock), laughed and ate together. The food throughout the entire day was simply amazing and - bonus - I took home some great simple recipes!

This was a really full trip! We have been on many excursions and this one had the most to do. First, we were picked up in a new minivan with comfy leather seats. We were driven to Can Tho and got into a boat that took us to the floating market which was really all I expected. But this was like a huge food tour! 1) Had lunch and drinks brought to us by vendors on boats. 2) toured a boat selling pineapples and ate fresh pineapples 3) went to an over water shop that makes pandas noodles - tried snacks and toddy palm drinks. 4) boated into Mekong canal and had a variety of fresh fruits 4) walked to a cacao farm and had iced chocolate 5) drove to the deep countryside where you could smell fresh rice from the rice fields. Walked to a local house and had a huge amazing lunch. Shout out to our great tour guide Dai who was super sweet and knowledgeable!!
