You’ve most probably heard of sugar shacking, that mysterious springtime activity ? If you’ve ever wondered what a “cabane à sucre” or sugar shack really is and what really happens at this place, here it is:
Sugar shacks are popular in Eastern Canada because of Mother Nature, basically. You see, sugar maple trees love cold winters and in order for the sap to flow in the spring, the trees need cold nights and warm sunny days, which is exactly what we have here in Québec. Fun fact: Canada produces about 80 per cent of the world’s pure maple syrup, and Québec alone makes up over 90 % of the country’s production. In 2016 alone, Québec produced approximately 71.4% of the global production (source: FPAQ). And we make the best maple syrup in the world!

Fabulous day on this tour. Picked up on time and had a lovely spacious car there and back. Knowledgeable tour guide (Sorinel) who was wonderful and as I was visiting alone ate with me in the sugar shack to ensure I had company and could make the most of the experience. Thank you so much. I would highly recommend this trip.

It was a wonderful cultural, historical and gastronomic experience, highly recommended if you are in the area during the sugar shack period. Chris was a great host in every way, and having just four of us made for a special intimate event. Highly recommended!

Hearing about the process - how it's changed through the years and the production of the final product. Of course, tasting it was the ultimate fun!!!

We initially too this tri pas we were curious about the sugar experience. We are glad we went !! :)
Chris picked us up from the hotel in a clean SUV, it was rainy during our trip. Chris was very knowledgeable on how maple syrup is made, my wife and I enjoyed his knowledge on this.
When we arrived at the sugar shack it was crowded with a long line, Chris took take of this and made us skip the line :) Inside the dining hall we were served a 3 course brunch/lunch meal (make sure you don't eat a heavy breakfast :) ), inside the dining hall there were so many people, I think its because we came in high season.
After our brunch/lunch we went to get souvenirs from the sugar shack store, then we were guided by Chris to try on maple syrup tasting on the snow (this was super tasty ! ) after that Chris explained to us in details how maple syrup is taken from the trees by showing us the trees used by the sugar shack company at the back of the property, we then headed back to Montreal, trip back was uneventful, Chris was kind and super friendly throughout the trip we really enjoyed his company. I highly recommend this trip with Chris ! :). Chris is also an awesome photographers where he took nice pictures of us!

We had a wonderful tour. Chris, our tour guide, did a great job. The meal at the sucrerie was delicious. We loved the atmosphere, and meeting the owner. A perfect day, well worth the money.

Chris picked us up in a comfortable SUV. We picked up one other couple. It was so nice to have a semi-private drive to the Sugar Shack, so much better than a large bus group. Chris was knowledgable and very friendly. Learning about the maple syrup process was amazing and the brunch was so good. We loved pouring maple syrup on everything. A highlight was the maple taffy poured on snow. Next time I am in Montreal, I will get in touch with Chris and ask him to take us on another tour. I highly recommend the Sugar Shack tour.
