The taxi picked us up from the hotel at 1:30 at night and brought us to a bus. We spent three hours in Hurghada picking up other attendees before we started our journey to Cairo.
The airconditioning in the bus was set on 13 degrees. Way to cold. I repeatedly asked the driver if he could turn up the temperature, but he kept turning it down to 13 degrees. This caused me to get sick and I completely lost my voice the following day.
When we finally arrived in Cairo our First stop was the Egyptian Museum. We where supposed to get a Dutch speaking guide, but got an English speaking guide instead. When we complained about this the tour operator responded in a rude matter and told us that we didn’t have a choice.

After a quick run trough the Museum (less than one hour) we where supposed to go to and enjoy our traditional Egyptian lunch, but instead we where taken to the Nile shore where a boat ride was organised witch cost another 10 euros per person and wasn’t included in the trip that we booked.

The tourguide ridiculed us for not wanting to go on this extra activity and pay an additional 10 euros per person and told us we had to stay on the bus and wait while some other attendees went on this boat ride. Again we where met with very rude behavior from both two tourguides and the tour operator.

After that we went to the restaurant to have our lunch, but becouse of the extra activities planned there was hardly any time to finish our meal. We even had to take our cup of coffee on the bus, becouse we had to hurry to the papyrus shop. Again an activity that we didn’t book on our trip.

Once more the guide ridiculed us for not wanting to buy anything in the papyrus shop and when we told him we didn’t book this in our trip he responded rudely by saying that he did not choose us to come with him but we chose to come with him.

Back on the bus, the tourguide was trying to sell us all kinds of things like necklaces and headskarfs. On the way to the Pyramides he tried to convince us to take a camel ride or a horse carriage ride to get close to the pyramids, so we could take better pictures. Ofcourse at an additional cost.

After a short visit to the Pyramids (again less then one hour) we stayed on the road that passes the Sphinx and we where told we could take a picture from there. We didn’t even get down so we could see the Sphinx from up close. We walked straight past it and we continued straight away to another extra activity that again, we didn’t book on our trip; a perfume oil shop were we where forced to sit and listen to some presentation about the perfume oils.

After that we noticed that the tourguides and the tour operator did not know that we where supposed to spend the night in Cairo. They assumed we would join the rest of the Group back to Hurghada. When they realised their mistake they quickly ordered a taxi and dumped us in a cheap, nasty and very dirty hotel called “The Priamid Plaza Hotel” and left in a hurry. We included picktures to illustrate how filthy and cheap this hotel was. We acctually got a skin rash from the dirty sheets on the bed. Defenately not the four star hotel we where supposed to spend the night.

The next morning a Dutch speaking guide by the name of Tawfik Elshaer picked us up from the hotel. He was not working for the tour operator but he was hired seperately to take us on the rest of our trip. He was a nice man but he didn’t know the program that we where supossed to do that day. So het ook us to the Mosk of Muhammad Ali and to the Bazaar where we finally could buy some souvenirs. But we didn’t go to the Islamic Museum and the Salah el Din Citadel. Neither did we have lunch at a restaurant, but he gave us some small falafel that was handed out for free near the Mosk after the Friday afternoon prayer, witch he attended, leaving us alone to walk around the bazaar.
After that we where put on a regular bus back to Hurghada. The bus was filthy, stinky, uncomfortable and not airconditioned. When we arrived in Hurghada we where picked up by the taxi driver and he brought us back to our hotel. Exhousted, dissapointed and hungry.
