My family and I visited Rio Secreto. We had our 4 year old and 8 year old with us. There was some miscommunication from the beginning as our resort said Rio Secreto was the only cenote that would allow our 4 year old. I didn't know much about toi Secreto, as I just wanted swimming cenotes. I didn't get my wish. It was really hot and my kids loved getting to put on the headlamp and wetsuit. After getting on the gear, we hiked down to the caves. Our guide provided everyone a walking stick as the ground was pretty rocky. Tomas was a nice guy, but had the personality of a chunk of clay. Getting down to the caves was a little tricky for me as I had a really sore swollen ankle. However, we all made it down some rock cliff stairs to the bottom of the cave. From here it was just a hike through maybe two feet of water with rocky footing. The cave waa indeed beautiful, but I have explored several caves including Carlsbad cavens in New Mexico and wasn't looking for just another cavento explore. It was a slow pace as we went single file with a photographer taking pictures every 2 minutes it seemed. I was concerned about falling with my ankle in the cave and so it too alot of the fun, relaxation and joy out of it for Mr. I kept waiting for the water to get deep enough to swim in, but it never did. There are a few points water might get to maybe 5ft. However we just bobbed around in it for a few moments before trekking back through more sharp somewhat slippery rocks. Both our kids absolutely killed this event..they went right through the cave, dark. Rocks, the whole thing without a single issues. True troopers. It finally ended with us climbing some stairs back to the surface. All in all..it was fine if you were looking for just a cave exploration. I was not so while I did not hate it, I didn't love any aspect of it. It was ok I guess. I never did fall or get hurt, but it was on my mind the whole trip. My wife and kids liked it, however I am fairly certain I would not do Rio Secreto again.

Overall a very good tour, though it’s important to know a few things prior
Pickup at our hotel was right on time. After picking up a few other groups, van drove to rio secreto where we got wristbands. Then a different driver drives to Tulum. Spent about an hour and a half in Tulum (our day was overcast so not too hot). Suggest bringing water containers.
After Tulum headed to Rio Secreto, spent a couple hours getting prepared and going through the caves was amazing! Great to swim and see sights. Unfortunate they don’t allow any cameras in the cave so you have to rely on their photographer (120usd for the photo set)
Lunch buffet around 3:30 pm so was definitely starving by the. Back to the hotel (in a 3rd van) made about an 10 hour day
Memo was an amazing tour guide ! Such great info and a lot of fun ! Definitely recommend!

Wow, what a beautiful place. This was hands down our best thing we did in Mexico. Jorge was our guide and he was awesome! He had the best energy throughout the entire trip. We had a mixed group of Americans and Mexicans and he did the guide in both English and Spanish. He kept the group entertained and was super knowledgeable and gave us really great information. Inside the cave is beautiful. The water was refreshing and crystal clear. I chose to go without a wet suit and my husband chose to wear one. He was glad he had it because he thought the water was too cold. I enjoyed the coolness of the water and was glad I didn’t have it. We did buy the picture package it was $120 for all the photos. They give you a code so you can download them. Unfortunately we weren’t able to access all of the photos but we had enough of the ones we liked. Tulum was super cool but we went after the river tour and got there mid afternoon. It was hot as balls. Make sure to take them up on the umbrella, you’ll be glad you have it. We were so sweaty and hot. We definitely rushed looking at the ruins because we were so hot and thirsty. We loved this excursion and would definitely do it again. Jorge was the best guide we could’ve had, very lucky we had him!

Isabel was a brilliant tour guide. Tulum was really interesting, but the cave tour was amazing. We did the purple trail. Rio Secreto is beautiful and really well organised. The lunch provided was great too.

This was a fabulous experience! Our family of 8, ranging in kid age from 4-20, really enjoyed it. The guide was knowledgeable Anna shared very interesting information. The cavern was fascinating and the water felt amazing after the hot muggy weather. Lunch was delicious with homemade tortillas. The pictures taken throughout the tour were wonderful, although very pricey. We purchased 2. Tulum was amazing as well. It was VERY hot. I think my family would have enjoyed it more if we had brought a metal water bottle (you cannot bring a plastic water bottle into Tulum). However, I thought the overall experience was amazing and well worth the money spent on the outing.

Diego was a great, knowledgeable and friendly tour guide! He provided us with a lot of history of Tulum and the Rio Secreto cave, and also made sure we were comfortable and safe! This is a must do excursion! It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to see this cave in this capacity!

Excellent, without words. It's worth it 100%. The guide Stephanie according to the tour, very good!
Lose points for photos. It is a scam that they charge almost the same as the excursion to obtain them. I couldn't take away any memories of this wonderful experience.

We booked our excursion through the Sunwing rep at our hotel.

If you are staying at a further away hotel near Isla Mujeres, be prepared to have a longer ride to and from Rio Secreto (i.e. an hour plus) than if you are near the hotel district and if you there is another 45mins ride from there to Tulum both ways. It took us approximately 2 hours to get back to our resort.

The day we went, it was 33 degrees and extremely hot and humid. Although we did try to get there as early as possible and your transport does have air conditioning, people not accustomed to this weather may experience heat exhaustion. Umbrellas and bottle water are provided however any plastics will not be permitted into the area where the ruins are located. Drink the botle of water ASAP as you will need it for to journey in the hot sun. There are many photo ops and after the tour, you are brought back to Tulum market.

Transport is arranged back to Rio Secreto for buffet lunch for approximately half an hour.

Next is a 10 minute ride to the caves where you would suit up in wet suit and water shoes ride for about another 10 minutes by bicycle and then replel down to the caves. Unfortunately, I was unable to proceed to this part as I did not feel well and eventually confirm I had heat exhaustion. Alfredo and Irma were able to help me and bring me back to normal with fluids and fruit and continually checking up on me. Be warned that if you are not used to the heat, you may get heat stroke/exhaustion and may require medical attention. They were very attentive and caring and I thank them very much.

My other half did end up continuing on with the activities and had a very good experience. This activity does require bike riding, repelling down into a cave and a bit of floating/swimming. It is much cooler in the caves.

Our guide, Aaron was very attentive and was very knowledgeable of both Tulum and Rio Secreto. We will be back next time and yes, I will just do the Rio Secreto part only.

Booked our tour through Nexus Tours/ Sunwing representative at the resort we stayed at. It came to 4486.61 MXN / (250.20 USD) for 2 people, including all the transportation, nice lunch buffet, wetsuit, water-shoes, life-jacket, helmet with light, lockers, and a reasonably sized group of 8 -10 people. The driver provided sunbrella and water bottles for Tulum. All the drivers/ staff/ employees/ tour-guide were GREAT.

Rio Secreto was amazing and 110% worthwhile. (It was also nice to get away from the heat and the wind, and the water was not too cold with a wet suit). Beautiful nature and very fun exploration! -(if you're into that sort of thing).
There are NO electronic devices of any sort or camera allowed... which on one hand, I would have loved to take some photos there, but on the other hand it is also a nice experience when you and everyone around you isn't distracted with photo taking and is just enjoying the experience.
An assigned Rio Secreto photographer accompanies your group into Rio Secreto, and there is an option to buy photos at the end, but the prices are RIDICULOUS, especially since it's just normal digital photography and everyone is a digital photographer in this day in age. I don't understand why they don't just reasonably price (absolutely no more than $14 USD total) for a digital copy of the photographs, so that most people would actually buy them, (considering the photographer already took them anyway). I imagine they would actually make more money that way in the end. Instead they charge about $100 USD for about 12 alright (no artistic masterpiece) photos.

Tulum was a neat site, (& lots of iguanas) but when we went it was extremely windy and super hot (midday), and being a sensitive wuss when it comes to unfavourable weather conditions I would, in retrospect have skipped out on this tour, unless I was there during milder weather.
