Booked this private, skip the line tour through Viator and confirmed the details the morning of the tour with the operator via WhatsApp. Was told to look for a flag that said CIS tours. Arrived a little early, there was no one with a flag. I sent a WhatsApp which was read but never responded asking where the guide was. I started asking around the plaza and was finally directed to an older man in the corner with nothing indicating CIS tours. He guided us to a group tour. I said no, I’m signed up for a private skip the line tour. He said that tour isn’t available today, you will go with the group. He finally agreed to a partial refund after I staunchly insisted.
The group tour was not good either, rambling and not giving much of a sense of the history of the Colosseum itself, but spent a lot of time at the beginning talking about Hitler and Mussolini, etc. We also didn’t skip any lines that I saw. The guide several times gave no instructions, for example getting tickets or where to go next, and then mocked group members who didn’t figure out what they were supposed to do. She also made derogatory remarks about “the Chinese”, which seemed to be anyone with southeast Asian features. We ended up just handing in our headsets once we got inside and exploring ourselves, which was a much better experience.
It was a Sunday free entrance day, and I can’t help but feel we would have had a much better experience if we had just entered on our own. To add insult to injury, the “partial refund” I received was about half. The tour we were given was in no way, shape or form worth anything like half the cost of the private tour we paid for. I highly recommend avoiding CIS tours.

Tour was worth the money and the guide info was so clear and we had acsess to restricted areas and it was a good deciaion have a pvt tpurbgide just for us got many tips

No tickets available when arriving at the Colosseum. Pity. We needed to book a guided tour in order to get in. Not cheap …
But Giovanna did an amazing job. Guided us very good, good information, time to take pictures. Must do, ok it is not cheap but without the information you cannot see all aspects and details.

Geovanna was so excellent and made us feel at home in your eternal city. She also let us go to toilet whenever we wanted which I must say was an added bonus! 🤣😋
The organisers caused much stress however (the only negative)
I was also pleased that she was so insistent I took the elevator (a welcome addition due to my fibromyalgia) 🤩

our guide was fabulous and knowledgeable. it felt like my grandfather telling me a story. he was kind and patient. i would recommend 10/10.

Giavanna was an outstanding guide- fun, knowledgeable and very interesting. Having a private guide made the whole experience so much more enjoyable and worthwhile . Highly recommend.

Benji was an amazing tour guide. He had great knowledge of Roman history, very well organised and made the tour very entertaining with his sense of humour. Plus the tour company gave us a private tour as we wereonly 4 and no quibbles. I will recommend it 👌
