The cubistic pyramid form of the Museum of Islamic Art, which rises out of the creamy turquoise waters of the Persian Gulf. Visitors can admire the puritanical Islamic absolute monarchy cherishing tradition, while embracing modernity to become a Middle East Goliath. The museum's collection includes manuscripts, metalwork, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, textiles, coins, fabric, and glass collected since the late 1980s. MIA has an exceptional collection of rare gold and silver coins, which gives a captivating insight into the lives of Muslim peoples from the 7th century. MIA has some of the highest-quality of glasswork from enameled glass, in its multicolored grandeur, to gleam and even simpler cut and molded pieces ever produced in the Islamic world. The collection has over 800 manuscripts from Qur’ans from the 7th century to Ottoman works of the 19th century.

I am making a double review (copy and paste) since TA has allowed a double publication of this place and it is fair to allow readers to understand that these two places are intrinsically the same. Meaning: Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar and Museum of Islamic Art. Two names; same place.

Now let's go ahead with the review.

This is by far one of the most beautiful museums in the world that I have visited. Don't get me wrong, I love Louvre, The Vatican, El Prado, etc. All filled with outstanding pieces and the places themselves pieces of history as well.

The Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar or Museum of Islamic Art, is a modern place, recently made, but designed in a way that allows the peaceful Islamic ways to flow with architecture that regardless of being modern, feels from centuries ago.

Located in la Corniche, the main Gulf road that flows along the promenade of Qatar, it was designed by Leoh Ming Pei, FAIA, RIBA a Chinese-American architect. Born in Guangzhou but raised in Hong Kong and Shanghai and who died just last year on the 16 May 2019 at the impressive age of 102 years. Not too bad!!!

The museum hosts the restaurant IDAM led by the head chef and French culinary genius Alain Ducasse. He is not there of course, but his team is definitely keeping up the good training.

The museum is by far huge internally and externally, occupying an area of some 45,000 m2 (480,000 sq ft), and its architecture as I mentioned before, is influenced by ancient Islamic architecture yet has a uniquely modern design involving geometric patterns.

It is worth mentioning that it is the first of its kind to feature over 14 centuries of Islamic art in the Arab States of the Persian Gulf. Absolutely breathtaking.

You need to come here with time. Time to walk, to appreciate, to inform yourself, to make beautiful inner and outer pictures of this place that is art itself. You need time to understand here the true peaceful ways of Islam and the beauty that deserves a special place in our world.

Please enjoy the pictures we have divided strategically among the two copied and pasted reviews and be mesmerized of this wonder of history, art and architecture.

An impressive journey through the history of Islamic art. From calligraphy to science such as astronomy and mathematics, from carpets made of silk to ceramics, jewelry and utensils, carved wood and marble, gold to glass, and specific geometric shapes and patterns for Islamic footprints in manny countries, Dont miss this unique place.

You cant miss a visit to this beautiful museum.
You can admire masterpieces of
Islamic art, jewellery, coins, textiles, ceramics etc. All in a stunning building designed by the architect Pei.
Unfortunately the restaurant at the top floor was closed. We had anyway a good brunch in the coffee shop from where you can admire an unbelievable skyline
