Embark on a transformative journey through the hidden narratives of Little Africa in Rio de Janeiro's bustling Port with Florencio's immersive walking tour. Delve into the profound legacy of over four million Africans enslaved in Brazil over three centuries, where Rio emerged as the epicenter of the global African slave trade in the 19th century, welcoming one in every five enslaved individuals of the modern era.

Today, the echoes of this rich heritage resound throughout Brazil, with over half of its population proudly identifying as black. From the pulsating rhythms of samba to the kaleidoscope of colors at the carnival, from the tantalizing flavors of Afro-Brazilian cuisine to the spiritual beats of African-influenced music, the vibrant tapestry of African culture is woven into the very fabric of Brazilian life.

Join Florencio on an unforgettable journey through time and culture, where the past comes alive, and the legacy of Little Africa continues to inspire and enchant.

This was a fantastic tour and it delivered on all my hopes. The guide, Ana Julia, was extremely knowledgeable, vibrant, and clearly passionate about all things connected to the African diaspora. The tour covered the arrival of enslaved Africans to Rio, their experience in Rio, resistance, music and dance, and art — just to name a few topics. It gave me a different perspective of Rio (Brazil) beyond the beaches. So glad I did the tour!

The Rio Little Africa tour was exactly what I was hoping to experience as an African American visiting Brazil. It was good to understand the parallel history of Brazil in comparison to that of the USA and better understand how to place the experience of Africans that were enslaved in both places. Moreover, our guide did a great job in also providing current cultural contexts of the lives of Afro Brazilians and the challenges faced currently and steps the country is taking to create a more inclusive society. I loved everything about this tour and would absolutely recommend again

Our guide, Damiana, was very personable and knowledgeable about the history of the African diaspora in Brazil. We spent all day with her and it didn’t even feel like it! She told us about how Rio’s slave trade history was buried and uncovered when the Olympics came, the history of the first Favela, and explained the murals in Little Africa. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Rio.

Damiana was a spectacular tour guide. I am SO happy we found her tour. She's extremely knowledgeable and flexible enough to tailor the tour to fit the vibe of the group. We didnt have any other plans for the day so she was able to add some additional stops on the tour. We event went to a nice market after the tour was over! You can tell Damiana loves what she does and the people we meet on the tour have love for her as well. Felt super safe and will absolutely be booking another tour with her next time we're in Brazil. I truly can't say enough great things about her. Thank you 10/10 experience.

It was interesting to learn the history of Africans in Brazil. Our guide was knowledgeable and presented information with clarity. I enjoyed the break from the Brazilian sun when we toured the site where they excavated the bodies found during the home renovation.

This is a must do tour to learn about Brazilian history. Larissa was our tour guide and she was excellent! She had a depth of knowledge and compassion about the African slave trade and how it was integral to Portuguese history and founding of Brazil. She also highlighted some of the current developments in recognizing this history and educating the general public. We toured Vlongo Wharf and walked the area of "Little Africa" pointing out significant highlights. We started the tour at IPN institute/museum which shows some of the archaeological finds of buried slaves and has a good pictoral display. All in all a great tour and be sure to ask for Larissa!
