The first day boat trip for so many hours where you can’t look out…because of a very high railing, are you serious?
The mini from Chiang mai was ok, but the stop before the Laos border were to bye a Laos SIM card with no further explanation, no English. It turned out that I had to dial a number to activate the card ? A photo I should not use. Next boat was crowded to the max. Was told to bye lunch etc before the tour. Not necessary, there was cup noodles and sandwiches and drinks for reasonable prices.
I was disappointed, though the Mekong river and the mountains were fantastic. Kirsten

The 7 hour trip from Chiang Mai to Thai border was crowded, but doable.10 people and their luggage packed into a mini van. Tour did a good job getting us through customs. Hotel in Huay Xai was the worst hotel I’ve been in ever! Slept on box springs, no mattress, no toilet paper in room, bugs all over…gross! The worst part was the cruise…I’d envisioned a quiet cruise down the Mekong…as it turned out we were on a boat with about 200 people, mostly backpackers and it was like a college frat party. Sitting down you couldn’t see over the sides of the boat and you had to stand to see the scenery. The boat was nothing like the one pictured in the ad…either hard wood benches or repurposed car bench seats that were not permanently affixed and moved around. There are better boats out there…find one!
