Stopped in their tracks by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79, Herculaneum and Pompeii offer the best look anywhere at what life in Rome must have been like around 2,000 years ago.

You will meet a licensed guide at the main gate in Pompeii, after purchasing tickets, the tour begins and you will be led by the guide through the ruins of this amazing ancient town.

This gate provides access to the west of the city and it is the most impressive among the seven gates of Pompeii.

The Civil Forum is the core of daily life of the city and is the focal point of all the main public buildings for city administration and justice, business management, and trade activities such as markets, as well as the main places of citizen worship.

This space was used to carry out business and for the administration of justice. It is accessed from the Forum through five entrances separated by tuff pillars

This was a small cook-shops where hot food was sold

It is one of the larger houses of Pompeii, covering an entire block of about 3000 sqm and, according to its original layout, it dates back to the 2nd century BC.

The house, one of the richest and most famous in Pompeii, is under the protection of Priapus, the god of prosperity, painted to the right of the door, symbolizing the economic success of the owners, the brothers Aulus Vettius Restitutus and Aulus Vettius Conviva liberti, who became rich through trade.

The pool is found to the left, whereas a colonnade is found to the right, which leads to the men's quarters, which are split into the apodyterium (dressing room), with the frigidarium (for cold baths), which leads to the tepidarium (for medium temperature baths) and then to the calidarium (for hot baths).

The Grand Theatre was built by exploiting the natural slope of the hill for the construction of the auditorium. The staircase was separated into three areas with corridors, which were in turn divided into five sectors, and was based on a passage with a barrel vault.

You will be taken by your driver to the Archeological Park of Herculaneum. There, you meet a licensed guide at the main gate and after purchasing tickets, your tour begins. You will be led by the guide through the ruins of this amazing ancient town.

You will admire one of the last discoveries made by archaeologists, the incredibly restored remains of a boat dug up in the marina area, the same one where 300 skeletons were found.

The nature trail n. 5 “Il Gran Cono” starts from the Piazzale (square) at an altitude of 1,000 metres above sea level in the municipality of Herculaneum at the end of the provincial road Ercolano-Vesuvio. At the moment, the Piazzale hosts a parking area for those who come by car. Before starting the climb, you can visit one of the info points of the Vesuvius National Park where you can receive useful information about the protected area and buy a map. From the Piazzale you can already enjoy a splendid view of the northern side of Mount Somma with the cognoli of Sant'Anastasia and Punta Nasone, the top of the ancient volcano which 1,132 metres high, opposite the cognoli of Ottaviano and Levante. While looking upwards, you can hold your breath and see from below what will be the ascent to the bottom edge of Sterminator Vesevo.

Approximately 40 minutes drive from the highway to the point closest to trail that takes to the summit. An approximately 35 min. walk to the top of the volcano. An approximately 35 min. walk back down to the car. Approximately 40 min. drive down to the highway.

One of the wealthiest private homes in Herculaneum, its owner was certainly a billionaire.

We took the tour with our 16 year old daughter and our tour guide made her the star of the show. If you travel with teenagers you know how easy it is to lose their attention but Toni kept her interested and at the same time was able to answer our countless questions. The nice thing about a private tour is that you can adjust it to your likings, we could have lunch in one of the lovely places on the hills of Mt Vesuvius when all the tourist busses drove past and the passengers stared envious at our beautiful lunch under grape trellises.
Our driver was friendly and navigated Neapolitan traffic stoically but really Toni made our day by bringing the past back to life. We had not heard much of Erculaneo before but it ended up being a highlight over Pompeii thanks to him.
Of course it’s quite a bit pricier than a group tour but if you have the chance and are interested in history I recommend it wholeheartedly

We booked this excursion 9 months in advance, 3 months before trip we were told it was cancelled by Viator , got no additional info from tour guide or any contact , I tried to reach out to the tour guide Antonino 10 hours before excursion but didn’t get a response, next morning went to the meeting point, waited 40 minutes then had to make other arrangements because we had tickets to Vesuvius national park for 9:10 am
Very poor communication from the guide
And even though he didn’t take us, he has charged us $795

My husband and I both absolutely loved this tour! Our tour guide Antonino (Tony) reached out to us the night before, picked us up right on schedule, and was super engaging and EXTREMELY knowledgable. The car was clean, nice, and comfortable, and the organization of the tour was great. The walk to Mt Vesuvius' peak was amazing (no guide with that, he waits downstairs), but the tour of Herculaneum and Pompeii were just spectacular. We learned so much! He kept it funny and interesting and answered all of our questions. He also dropped us off at the ferry terminal where we needed to go, and even followed up to make sure we made our ferry. Overall, highly recommend booking this tour!

Pick up at Hotel in Praiano by our driver, Fabio who was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The Mercedes Minivan is airconditioned, spacious and very comfortable. We were then met at Pompeii by our guide Antonino, who is simply a delight. He made the stories of Pompeii and Herculaneum come alive. We were taken to a quaint restaurant off the beaten track for a simple but delicious and inexpensive Pizza for a quick lunch. It is a long day from Praiano and we preferred a short stop in Sorrento on our journey, rather than a trip to Vesuvius but that was entirely a personal preference and if you have more energy than us you can of course go to Vesuvius. What made this day so special was Antonino's passion for his craft; we got so much more out of the locations than had we simply travelled ourselves. Antonino is calm, kind and extremely informative and entertaining

Antonio was extremely knowledgeable and professional. He was very skilled at presenting historical fact in an entertaining way. He kept us on track to be able to see Pompeii and Herculaneum all in one day. Since we got to Pompeii before it opened, he made sure we went to the sites that would get crowded first. We even had time to visit a cameo factory!

Our guide was knowledgeable and flexible - willing to adjust pace to ours, customize itinerary to our interests, and seemed to enjoy answering all our questions. Would highly recommend for getting a full appreciation of these important archeological sites.

Antonino was an amazing guide and driver. He even had an iPad in the car ride so the tour could include the drive from Sorrento to the sites. Herculean and Pompeii were amazing and brought alive by his tour and bis humor. I could not recommend enough.
