Amazing being able to get into the underground tunnels- absolute highlight of the tour. Our guide was very sweet and very knowledgeable. Our only issue was with the ear pieces we had. It was very difficult to hear and especially so when our guide got a little ahead. I think I missed half of what she said because of the ear piece. The meeting place was easy to find and we had no issues at all. Overall a good experience but could have been amazing if we had earpieces that worked. I think everyone on the tour had this issue.

The tour was nice and started roughly on time. The tour guide was pleasant and accommodating to other guests who needed it. We enjoyed the experience.

Dry cool going underground. Then walking around the arena was also fun. Explaining where the gladiators and animals came from.

I had a confirmed 2pm tour of the Underground Colosseum. On the day of our tour the tour operator informed me I had to be at the Colosseum at 1pm. We arrived late due to this error on the tour operators end. We were left to find our tour guide on our own in the crowded Colosseum. We had approx 40 min tour and no tour of Forum ( as was advertised). Viator takes no responsibility for the tour operators error. The day was a disaster!..so disappointing!

1) The single most important thing to know is that you must put your name on the booking exactly as it is in your passport. You cannot use the name you go by.

2) Organisation:
Chaos at the meeting point. Some of our group members had booked with the name they go by (think John instead of Johnathan or Trish instead of Patricia). This caused a huge kerfuffle. At no stage in the booking process does it say you need to use your full name as it appears in your passport. The tour organiser said we had to go through the security checkpoint alone, pretending we didn’t know the rest of the group, incase there was an issue. “We cannot take responsibility for getting you in, so you go over there to the individual line and fingers crossed”. Thankfully we got in without a problem, but this was a needless source of stress. Just tell people to use their full name when booking.

3) Group size:
To me, 25+ is not a small group. We could hear everything fine with the headphones, but I would not describe this as a small group tour.

4) Underground tour:
The guide (internal coliseum guide, not directly affiliated to Tour of Rome, was wonderful. If I was just leaving a review for them, it would be 5/5.

Overall I would still recommend this tour, but I was very unimpressed with the organisation

Paid for a VIP experience. Received nothing more than a NIP tour (Not Important Person). You are just a number to this travel company. We showed up, on time, 1:45pm as the voucher stated and called the company (roaming bc no WiFi) and were told the tour time changed to 2:30pm. (They said they sent an email, they didn’t and can’t show proof of it either.) Keep in mind it was 90 degrees and the dead of heat/ humidity and there are people bustling everywhere. You are meeting at a point where there is no place to sit and shade was scarce due to the mass amounts of crowds. You meet next to a train station, across the road from the Colosseum, so it’s really busy and exhausting to try to navigate. There are so many tour companies that it’s packed and really difficult to find the right one. When the group finally came together we were told we couldn’t enter the Colosseum until 3:30pm. We were finally herded Into the entrance and the woman who was guiding us told us we needed to go to another meeting point inside the Colosseum and that is where our guide would find us. She did not enter with us, we were left to find our way. It was so Chaotic, So many people, Our group got separated through security and we were all looking for this meeting point. Finally everyone (about 16 people) found yet another holding area to wait for our Colosseum underground guide. It wasn’t until 5mims past 4pm when the tour started. This guide was very good and knowledgeable and is the only reason I am giving the review 2 stars. We had to leave early to try to make our food tour reservations. Which we missed due to the 2+ hour delay from this company. I will say the underground access was awesome but by the time we got there we rushed through and didn’t get to appreciate the magnitude of what we were seeing. We tried to get refunded for time lost but the company is refusing. Very disappointing in the website and how the tour was managed.

Horrible, disrespectful customer service. My husband suffered a medical emergency and was flown home. Contacted provider to explain and was sent a confirmation email saying I could substitute one person. Person arrives and is put into “detention” & was told substitutes only possible if the original person is dead. OMG!! Really??

Great experience from start to finish! We got to see things as the Gladiators did; then got time to tour on our own.

Such an amazing place, took so many photos. So hard to believe that this would have been constructed by hard physical labour and that part of it is still standing today.
