Permanent collection of the National Art Museum of Catalonia

The Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya takes visitors on an uninterrupted journey through a thousand years of Catalan art from the 10th to the 20th centuries. The museum houses the world’s finest collection of Romanesque frescoes and works by the leading exponents of the Catalan art nouveau movement, modernisme, including Gaudí and Casas. A visit to the rooftop viewing point, with its panoramic views of the city, is the perfect way to round off your visit.

The museum also offers different temporary exhibitions:

Antoni Fabrés (from 08/31/2019 to 09/29/2019)

El Víbora. Comix contracultural (from 21/06/2019 to 29/09/2019)

Oriol Maspons (from 05/07/2019 to 12/01/2020)

We did this on the day we arrived from a long flight and wanted something to help keep us awake and moving. The Museum was so much more interesting than we anticipated, we stayed much longer than we had planned. So much history of the City of which we were unaware. Worth several hours by far.

Fantastic experience, so much wonderful art! There are several areas with many great paintings and also medieval murals in the religious art section. Highly recommended! I came late in the day so there was no wait. Also in the evening it was a awesome place to hang out and listen to the live music.

The views of Barcelona from here are amazing. You don't even have to go into the museum to enjoy it.

But I would recommend visiting the museum, it is in a great building and it is very large. It has mainly four sections, Romanic, classic art, modern art and special exhibits. I don’t think you can see it all in one day, we were there for three hours and saw about 30%. But the museum has a nice restaurant with wonderful views so you can take a lunch break and spend the day. There is also a casual Cafe outside the museum.

Getting there is fairly easy from Plaza de España, if you don't mind an uphill climb through a nice park, or you can take the number 55 bus that leaves you very close to the main entrance.

What a treasure trove of history and artifacts to see and learn! Easy to tell which area of the museum you're in and there's a free app you can download that will tell you all sorts of information about the art. The staff was so friendly and helpful and you can tell that they love their jobs. Had a wonderful time and the building itself is beautiful

Very nice museum!! Allow 3 hours of visits to take the time to see everything because it is very large inside. The building itself is splendid.
There is even a restaurant inside but it seems a little expensive.

The museum is worth a visit, with many national and non-national exhibits. Not the best visited, perhaps a little chaotic, but it certainly remains a valid attraction to which you can dedicate a few hours of healthy culture.

The museum is located in a beautiful building. It has 4 wings into which the collections are divided (divided into three periods, Romanesque, Gothic and modern art).
I found the modern collection more interesting. Overall it doesn't stand out for particularly famous works.
If you have little time the visit is expendable
