WHAT TO EXPECT

1. {
We arrive in Kahului after picking you up from your accommodations/meeting location. Located in the valley between the Kahalawai (the West Maui mountains) and Haleakala, Kahului is the most populated city on Maui and the commercial and financial hub. It is also the starting point for our tour.

Drive through the eclectic town of Paia an old plantation era town

World famous Ho`okipa Beach Park is a breath-taking white sand beach boasts perfect windsurfing conditions and windsurfers from around the globe travel here to challenge themselves against the ever-changing waves. Stop for photos on the overlook.

The historic area of Huelo as it is adorned with vistas of bamboo, remarkable cliffs, and exceptional ocean views that certainly qualify as breathtaking. We stop to see the "painted forest" of beautiful rainbow eucalyptus trees.

Visiting the small community of Keanae will be like stepping into the past. Located on a peninsula which is an old lava flow, it is graced by Keanae Congregational Church, built in 1860 of lava rocks and coral mortar. Don’t miss an opportunity to feast on the best banana bread in the Hawaiian islands and possibly catch a view of the honu, Hawaiian sea turtles.

Aunty Sandy’s Banana Bread Stand Is a must stop destination for hot, fresh baked banana bread that was featured on Gordon Ramsay’s uncharted show “road to Hana” episode.

An idyllic area with two small scenic waterfalls and pools. Swimming opportunity.

Hanawi Falls cascades 200 feet into a freshwater pool next to the Hanawi Falls Bridge completed in 1926.

Experience Honokalani Beach, a gorgeous black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park. This magnificent beach is set among lava cliffs and the sand is actually small, smooth lava pebbles. A small sea arch, sea caves, and seaside lava tubes are located right on the beach. An ancient Hawaiian footpath leads to the beach area which appears like a vivid dream, with bright green jungle foliage on three sides and cobalt blue water lapping at its feet. Spectacular! Swimming opportunity.

Hana Bay (Uakea), is a beautiful black sand beach, On any given day you’ll likely see local Hana outrigger canoe clubs practicing.

At Koki Beach overlook, you will see a red hill (which is actually an eroding cinder cone) known as Ka Iwi o Pele, meaning “the bones of Pele”. From this vantage point, you can also get an excellent view directly offshore of `Alau Island, a seabird sanctuary with a 150-foot summit, topped by swaying coconut palms from the small red sand beach is a great photo stop.

We will stop at the tropical flowers of Maui to rest, use the bathrooms and a little shopping opportunity before getting back on the road.

Wailua Falls is an 80-foot cascading waterfall and plunge pool considered the most photographed beautiful waterfalls on Maui,

**CURRENTLY CLOSED BY NATIONAL PARK SERVICE** O`heo Gulch, also incorrectly known as “The Seven Sacred Pools”, is located in the Kipahulu area of Haleakala National Park. In reality, there are more like twenty-four pools. A one mile long loop trail goes down to the pools and ocean, then up and around, back to the parking area. NOTE: The National Park Service has closed access to the Pools indefinitely. Please see the NPS website. Weather, safety, timing and unexpected closure permitting.

Visit Charles A. Lindbergh’s grave. The famed aviator lived his last days on this lush Hana coast. Today, he lies at rest on the serene grounds of the Palapala Ho’omau Church in lovely Kipahulu. The adjacent limestone coral church was built in 1857. NOTE: This is an actual church which can be unavailable when a service is being conducted or the caretaker is not available. Weather, safety, timing and unexpected closure permitting.

Kipahulu is a photographers paradise of rainforests, waterfalls, pools, mountain valleys and sweeping ocean views. We will make photo opportunities stops.

St. Joseph Catholic Church one of Maui’s oldest churches was established in 1862 by the missionary Catholic priests served a thriving community of Native Hawaiians, ranchers, fishermen, and farmers.

Driving through the Kaupo district, with its rugged coastline, and unpaved roads you will think you are in the latest Indiana Jones adventure! We will make photo opportunities stops.

Kula district is a quaint, rustic area on the slopes of Haleakala, that stretches across the "up-country", from 500 m to 1,100 m (1,600 ft to 3,600 ft) in elevation of the western-facing slopes of Haleakalā, from Makawao to Ulupalakua. Kula’s most notable landmark, the brilliant white, octagonal Holy Ghost Church. A gift from the king and queen of Portugal to the island’s Portuguese plantation workers in 1894, it has been recently restored. Kula also offers the best views in Upcountry Maui, with sweeping views of Maui and the Pacific Ocean. This will be a bathroom stop and to take in the views.

Located on the rural northwest slope of Haleakala on Maui, the community is known for being the hub of the "Upcountry Maui", a part of the island dominated by mostly agriculture and ranch land. Makawao is an old, Paniolo town. A Paniolo is a Hawaiian Cowboy.

Finally we have come full circle around Haleakala on our Road to Hana Tour. After an epic day, we now we return you to your hotel/condo or meeting location.

• Vehicles used on the road to Hana are not wheelchair accessible. Participants must be ambulatory. No walkers, wheelchairs and/or scooters, of any kind, are permitted.
• We require any children under the age of 6 years old (5 and under) be in a size-appropriate safety seat; ie, a car seat or booster seat. NOTE: not provided, PASSENGERS TO PROVIDE
• Anyone with heart, back problems, or other serious medical conditions cannot participate in the tour. Oxygen tanks, or generators are not permitted.
• Special needs requests (except lunch) must be called in to the local supplier at least 1 week prior to tour date. All special needs requests are handled and accommodated on a situational basis.
• We provide a continental breakfast (locally baked pastries in tropical flavors and fresh grown Maui fruits). There are no hot beverages served but you are welcome to bring your own in a to-go cup. Special lunch requests (including vegetarian requests) require a minimum of 48 hours notice.
• Tour schedule/stops are subject to change due to weather, traffic, park closures, road closures, timing and or other various unforeseen circumstances.
• No luggage of large bags. All bags must fit under seat.
• Absolutely no alcohol or drugs onboard. No drinking alcohol or doing drugs while on tour.
• Maximum weight for passenger is 325 lbs. (147 kg).

The drivers knowledge. Was very friendly and took my wife to the Hana clinic . Very caring person. Did not rush the group and took time to get to know all of us.

I enjoyed the trip very much. I always find a way to enjoy myself. However, I was very disappointed that the trip was not as described in the itinerary. Only after I was already on the bus to the driver and inform us that, contrary to what was described in the Viator Itinerary, we were not going to go around Haleakala, but would simply go to Hana and then return. I have done the trip to Hana and back many many times. I only signed up for this because it was going around the bottom of the island which I have not visited. However good. Larry was humorous and very knowledgeable. I appreciated his making the trip enjoyable, even though it was not the trip I signed up for.

Our driver was phenomenal. He knew all the details about everything. He made our trip really great. We learned about so many things and he was prepared with lots of snacks and always offered water. We would book again!!

The views and all the vegetation are breathtaking. I do think for the average person more about local attractions that help generate income for the local Hawaiians would be beneficial like local markets etc. The history lesson, how to speak the language was interesting but a full 10 hours was to much

The tour’s route and guide were great. We truly enjoyed being able to see the beautiful plants and landscapes of Maui. The small group setting was ideal. We learned about each other during the long rides in between stops. The sound system on the bus needs an upgrade. I only heard 50% of the information the tour guide shared because of the van’s poor sound system. The tour guide was sharing a wealth of knowledge and history. I was disappointed I could not hear most of it. .

With limited time on our Honeymoon, we booked this tour hoping to see as much of Maui as possible in a day, while also wanting to enjoy the scenic Hāna Highway without having to do the potentially-quite-stressful driving ourselves. From the word go, we knew we were in safe hands with our driver and guide Louie. His personality and engagement through the day made the experience just as fantastic and memorable as all of the outstanding stops we were able to enjoy along the way. The locally-cooked lunch was a brilliant touch, the vehicle was comfortable enough for the duration and it was also lovely to witness the camaraderie between fellow tour drivers across the various stops. Would absolutely recommend this excursion to anybody visiting Maui.

The most memorable part of the trip was going to the red sands beach and the black sands beach… it was also a beautiful drive up the Road to Hana. Lunch and snacks were delicious and plentiful!
Negatives are we did not take anytime to stop in Hana town itself. Would have been nice to spend 15-30 minutes getting out of van in Hana. Traveled all the way there to just do a drive through … that was disappointing!
The other disappointment was the vans air conditioning did not seem to be working. Very warm in van…. Cooler outside than in!
Larry are guide was amazing and a wealth of knowledge and history!!! Excellent job Larry!

Our family enjoyed the Hana Tour immensely. It felt like we were experiencing the true essence of Hawaii. Ed was an amazing tour guide and provided so much knowledge about the island and everything around us. We are very thankful that we decided to take this tour and I highly recommend taking this tour!
