Fantastic experience with Rainbow Mountain Travels, our guides Nestor and Carlos were great and made sure everybody could achieve the challenge of reaching the summit. The 3am start is worth it to avoid the crowds and the buffet style breakfast and lunch were good, just be aware that drinks are not included.

Our day trip to Rainbow Mountain was well organized and very fun! Nestor picked us up bright and early, and provided blankets in the van so we could continue sleeping at 3:00 AM (this was so nice!) Nestor ensured we made it up the mountain safely, and provided a great history of the mountain at the top. Nestor is the best, and would recommend him as a guide to anyone! Thank you for a fun day!

Pick up was convenient, at 3am.
Drop off was at a plaza instead of at the lodging, which given the long day was not optimal.
Road is very windy. Make sure you take anti-nausea medication if you are at all prone to motion sickness
Food does not include soft drink and water but there are no signs posted to that effect, they come around and collect payment.
You will pay to go to the bathroom everywhere except the restaurant, keep 5-10 Peruvian sole coins on you for that.
Our guide was helpful and monitored for altitude sickness.
Drive time is 3hrs one way from Cusco, which gives you time to sleep for an early morning start.
Hike will take the wind out of you if you are not used to that elevation.
Location is beautiful.

As a solo travelled, I highly recommend rainbow mountain travel. Safe, clean transportation to and from the mountain. 2 buffet styled meals, and most importantly Jakelin was so kind and helpful to those that were feeling ill!

Waking up at 2:00 to get there before the crowds arriving as we left was SO WORTHY. The stops for the food (breakfast and lunch) were really good. A premium compared to many others. Erika and Alvaro our guides have us a memorable experience and took time to share plenty on the area.

We really enjoyed our excursion with Rainbow Mountain Travels. The early departure was worth it to get prime access to photo spots on the mountain. Roxane and Vicky were excellent guides, and our driver drove very safely and smoothly. We also appreciated the breakfast and lunch stops, as the food was tasty and the stops broke up the long drive.
However, there are a couple points of improvement:
1. The bus was extremely uncomfortable. Considering that there are 8 hours of driving on this trip (half of which are on a dirt road), bus comfort is extremely important. The seats were tight and not tall enough to be able rest my head against the back (I’m on the taller side at 5’10, but this was a problem for ~50% of the people). The lack of comfort in the bus made it hard to sleep even at 3 am, and made me very carsick at times. If spending 8 hours in one day in an uncomfortable bus is a dealbreaker, this tour is not for you.
2. No water or beverages were complementary on this tour. It may be a petty complaint, but I had at the very least expected water to be complementary with the two meals. Considering that you go up to 16000 feet on this tour, I think water is arguably the most important (and basic) thing they could provide for customer comfort and safety. It seems strange that when they advertise everything they provide for safety (oxygen, coca tea, etc.) that they try to nickel and dime customers for a very important ingredient for alleviating altitude sickness. I prepared two liters of water, so it’s not like I came unprepared.
3. The time that the bus was going to leave Rainbow Mountain was not clearly communicated to everyone. We had to wait 20 minutes for one person to get back to the van, which was frustrating when we could have spent more time on the mountain.
With all that considered, it was a really great tour!

Really a great tour. Definately worth going earlier than the crowds. I also rented a horse for going upwards for 70 Soles, so I had enough strengh für the optional red valley (did the humantay lake tour the day before). Absolutly stunning view!
Only thing that was annoying was the bus. You couldn't really sleep because it was so bumby! And this is not only because of the streets, main part is nice maintained but bus bumbed constantly all the way long.

Quite simple tour. The guide was nice, we had also included breakfast and lunch but there is no really interaction/ engagement. I mean, they drive you there and that's all. You walk alone and do your tour alone. No really explanation of the reasons of the colour of the mountain etc etc. You don't really visit red valley, you just cross it driving back. Probably was expecting something more.
The positive side is that we were one of the first tour arriving and it wasn't so crowded 😊
