We arrive from the hotel collection point; we went to the city of Romana which is the third most populous city in the Dominican Republic where a stop to go to the bathroom and take some refreshments and if they like the store has a diversity of Dominican handicrafts made.

We continue our direct route to Santo Domingo City or Province Santo Domingo is one of the 32 provinces of the Dominican Republic. It was separated from the National District on October 16, 2001.

Santo Domingo province is part of the Tenth Region Ozama, along with the National District.

I had low expectations about the food or transportation for this trip; the price was low, and I was fully prepared to have limited food choices and an older bus. But as a history fan I was looking forward to the trip. I was expecting to hear a lot of interesting facts about the country's rich history and see historical buildings. Instead, I got a tour of different gift shops. At the end of the tour, when I was invited to visit yet another gift shop masked as a "larimar factory", I refused to enter and stayed outside. I do not know if Spanish speakers got a better "deal", but the tour in English consisted of max 1-3 sentences per building. The historical stops were less than 2 min each, except for the Cathedral and National Park. But we did stop for at least 25 min at each gift shop! The entire tour only had 2 highlights - the first stop at 3 Eyes National Park, where we had a different guide, and he was knowledgeable and attentive, and the stop at the Catedral Primada de América (we used an audio guide, it was very informative). I would not recommend this tour as a history tour. If you are looking to see gift shops- it is ok. As expected, the bus was small and old, and the food was horrible.

Leo was great! He was very knowledgeable about Santo Domingo's history and related it in an interesting way. We requested an English guide, but were put in a group with all Spanish speaking people. No worries! Leo made us feel very comfortable and made sure we received a great tour.
