Ha Long Bay is a must for the standard tourist track so I did it. You get everything you’d expect for the low price, and that’s it so 3 stars for being average. No further stars because: 1) In the morning, you spend up to an hour in a bus collecting other pax, which is reasonable but still time consuming. 2) The bus has less leg room than most airplane seats. Pro-tip: Don’t get the front seats. There’s nothing to see but a Highway for the long journey, and the front boards reduce your leg space even more. Get the elevated back row where you can see more through other people’s windows, get leg space, and probably an empty seat since people don’t often walk all the way to the back for a seat. 3) It’s a very long bus ride where the driver follows the speed limit. That’s good for safety, but shuttles, taxis, or cars for smaller group travel a bit faster with shorter rest stops. 4) It seems all tour buses congregate at the pier and all boats travel together and arrive at each destination, ALL at the same time, which means huge crowds everywhere. 5) Pack a towel (for if you want to swim or kayak) and bring something warm to wear for the season. 6) Boat has shared dining areas, and lounge area was limited. 7) Expects sales pitches, such as pearls at the restaurant and table-to-table souvenirs and drinks on the boat. 8) Late arrival back to Hanoi with limited chance for dinner unless you buy something at the rest stop. I didn’t score lower stars because you get what you pay for.

A bit too touristy for my liking, but grateful for the staff involved. All inclusive should really include beverages.
