Mahahual Ecotours’s owner Victor Rosales started working in tourism in 2006 as a PADI Scuba Diving Instructor, worked for 7 years in contact with tourist in the Scuba Diving world, not only in México but also worked in a few countries around the world. After traveling and working abroad I realized how amazing the Yucatán peninsula is, and no one was offering activities related to nature, friends and family said that I should open a business using my local knowledge and expertise in the area. So in November 2013 we took the first official bookings.

Victor is simply the best! I highly recommend him. He is very knowledgeable
and an expert birder. He took us to a farm which is a birder's paradise.

Victor is very knowledgeable about the birds in the area, and where to find them. He has studied their habits and calls, and he called in numerous birds on our trip.
He is also knowledgeable about the history of the area and the issues that threaten the wildlife. He is very passionate about preserving this treasure for future generations.
I would whole heartedly recommend a tour with Victor.

First, Victor is top-notch. He's very friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable about birds, and speaks great English. My wife and I had a fantastic day birding with Victor. He specifically helped me check off many of the life-list birds I was looking for. His knowledge of the local area is great, and he was able to quickly put us in spots with plenty of birds. He drove, and we searched a few areas around Mahahual. In a residential area, we were lucky to get great close-ups of green jays from the car window! I was hoping to see the pygmy owl and laughing falcon. He had spots he thought could work, and they did! At one location, we had great calls from the Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl but no sighting. Later, at a different spot, he called one in, and it posed for some time. Wow! We started with Black-headed Trogan and ended with the Laughing Falcon. The Laughing Falcon was the icing on the cake. What a Day! In Costa Maya, BIRD WITH VICTOR!! You will be happy you did. Thank you, Victor!

By far the best private tour we’ve done from the Costa Maya cruise port. Victor is incredibly knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna as well as history. I only wish we would have found him years ago. We saw ~40 species of birds, had a fabulous lunch on the beach, and learned so much about the area.

I had a great half-day solo tour with Victor on Christmas Eve, of all days, during a shore stop by a cruise ship. I was first of all grateful that he would spend that day taking me birding. We birded around Costa Maya, then traveled several miles into the bush (with a driver in a very comfortable car) to bird in a forested area and a surrounding farm. We had a good variety of birds, and Victor is excellent at spotting and identifying birds and the local wildlife. I saw several lifers and enjoyed the morning immensely.

Victor is very knowledgeable of the ruins and passionate about the environment and birding. We arranged before we arrived to have my family do the ruins tour and I would go with the owner of one the properties he uses for birding. Even though I found lots of new species, I would have better understood the property and the birds I was looking at if the owner could speak some English or I could speak Spanish. My family loved the ruin tour and said Victor provided great information to go along with what they were seeing. Once we got back to the port, Victor and I spend some time birding around the port area and found some amazing birds. During my morning on the tour, I was able to identify a total of 37 different species and 29 new to me. My only area for improvement would be the time it takes to respond to emails. It could take a few days to over a week to respond, and regular follow up may be required. Once you meet him and get on the tour, it is worth it.

We wanted to see nature in the mangrove up close, but with as much respect for nature as possible. We found Eco tours via the internet and booked the birdwatching tour, with Victor as guide. Victor has a passion for the flora and fauna of Mexico and specializes in everything to do with local nature. In addition to his work as a guide, he is committed to nature conservation in Mexico. He told us with great passion about the operation of the mangrove and the jungle and the nature that they bring. We loved the bird watching and it was great.

Had a great time, we are amateur birders and Victor was great about helping us spot the birds. Found some cool species right next to the cruise port, then went to the "farm" stopping at a tree along the way that had tons of activity. Finished with a beachfront lunch. Would do it all again.

Best tour guide ever!! Victor was wonderful and extremely knowledgeable. Very prompt at the cruise port although we were lost getting through the maze of shops. We learned a ton about the culture, the town and the ruins we went too. Had us stop for amazing pineapple on the way back in this little town! Victor is very passionate about nature and history and had an answer to every question we had! You could tell me likes what he does and we were very comfortable with him. Highly recommend him and any tour he gives!!! Book now!
