Our Istanbul food tour, which focuses on this fascinating part of city, starts in the market of Beşiktaş. A hub of ferry traffic, covered with the flags of its famous soccer team and with its narrow streets filled with rollicking meyhanes and simple restaurants serving breakfast all day long, this neighborhood is a slice of real, contemporary Istanbul like no other. Among the beer bars and cheap clothing stores are a few traditional culinary mainstays for menemen, Turkish style scrambled eggs, and bal kaymak, clotted cream blanketed in honey – that’s the way we like to start a day. We’ll visit an Ottoman-era bakery to get some freshly baked goods for the boat ride across the Bosphorus to the market at Üsküdar, where a more traditional food culture is preserved. We’ll sample the best of this market with visits to a honey vendor from Eastern Turkey, an olive shop and a third-generation candymaker, before setting off for the fairytale neighborhood of Kuzguncuk.

We were walked by Remziye through 3 distinct neighbourhoods while having amazing meaningful conversations about the area, history, food and everything in between. The food places she brought us to were all locally run Turkish places serving authentic Turkish food. We had great portioned food and were able to enjoy everything served to us while being full but not over full. Cannot recommend this food tour enough was the highlight of Istanbul for us.

As we read the Istanbul eats exploring the culinary backstreets do we wanted to further explore Istanbul. We selected the born on the Bosphorus three distinct waterside neighborhoods. Our guide Ugur ildiz was knowledgeable & very personable and made the tour very enjoyable. We enjoyed the company of the other participants ( 7 of us). We would recommend this wonderful experience & look forward to joining other tours in the future.

Selim was fantastic. Knowledgeable, accomodating and very friendly. We ate home cooked food, food that locals eat at little gems of cafes. The walking was a bonus as we could eat our fill then walk the calories off. We were introduced to a part of Istanbul that tourists rarely visit.

Esin was a terrific guide, who shared Istanbul’s history, culture and food with us. She knows people in each of the three neighborhoods we explored. From butchers and fishmongers to breakfast street. We went places and ate foods I never would have tried on my own.

I would 100% recommend taking any tour with Esin - she was a highlight of my trip.

As with any tour so much of the experience depends on the guide and Esin was fabulous! She was knowledgeable about the food and its’ history in Turkish culture. We ate and drank so many things, some of which we likely wouldn’t have tried otherwise. It was great!
