The views were amazing. We were set up with a great trekking guide and the home stay was fabulous with great food and clean rooms. Agung is great at running this agency and we highly recommend you do this activity with him!

An amazing and well curated experience which we would do again! Anggik, our driver, was a lovely man and made us feel safe the entire trip. He did a sensational job of driving us all the way from Ungasan across Bali to Java, which is about as far as you can be from the hike starting point! The hike itself was riveting and breathtaking (not only because of the sulphur fumes). We are fast hikers so passed many people on the trail up and arrived at the sulphur field, in the belly of the crater, as the 4th/5th to arrive. We opted to watch the sunrise from a fabulous spot on the crater rim which was incredible - you will only be able to do this if you are organise your time well. Highlights: avoiding the bottlenecks & long queues via fast hiking… sunrise… home stay dinner, breakfast, room to shower & sleep… omitting stops (temples etc) on the drive along the way. Improvements: more specific information in itinerary or from driver eg. unless we asked very specific questions we had no idea what was going on eg. I didn’t realise we actually got a bed to sleep and shower to refresh AND that we were returning to the same room after hike to shower… our guide did not speak English and didn’t seem very motivated. We overheard other guides giving their participants so much great information, laughing etc… no lunch provided either day, which is definitely needed in addition to snacks - make sure you account for this - interesting since our trip covered 2x lunches and we opted out of 2x tours!

This trip was well organized, the guide Gusti was thorough and extremely professional. Ijen crater is a marvel. If you are staying in Bali or short on time (like I was) and not looking to arrange all the transport, accommodation, tickets, and other preparations, this option should appeal to you.

Amazing guy, took care of everything! The homestays were authentic and close to the activities. The guy took us to the best spots and at very good times as well. Do not expect 5 star hotels but definitely worth it. East Java is like no other place we ve been to so far :p

Mr. Dewa was an excellent driver, spoke very good English and was great at communicating with us and with our hotel. We felt very well taken care of end-to-end. Our mountain guide was very patient with us and took so many photographs for us; he was very polite and hiked as quickly or as slowly as we wanted to hike. The path to the caldera was very crowded so I’m not sure how most people manage to see both the blue fire and the sunrise from the crater rim. My wife and I were maybe third or fourth to arrive at the caldera base but after lingering at the bottom for too long the path back to the rim became very congested with many bottlenecks slowing everyone down. Sunrise views were spectacular, with the turquoise lake in the foreground and several volcanoes in the background. Seeing the Bali countryside by car was an added plus. The home stay was as expected for level of accommodation; it was clean and comfortable and the host accommodated our vegetarian needs and late arrival.

Unreal experience, good exercise and amazing views. The whole trip was smooth, our driver Dewa was great and got us everywhere safely and on time. I would really recommend this tour!

This experience was absolutely profound! The blue fames were very surreal and the sunrise afterward was majestic! Our hiking tour guide was very friendly and accommodating being I had Bali belly from Denpasar, starting to kick my butt during the hike and we had to leave early. Our driver Gusty made the travel there and back a very fun experience for the my partner and I. When he drove us back he knew I was really suffering from Bali belly and truly cared about me and got me home swiftly and safely. You would be lucky to have him as your tour driver :)

We had a great experience on this tour. One of the reasons we chose this option is that it leaves earlier but includes a homestay near the start of the hike so that you can sleep before getting started on your climb. Other tours left Bali in the evening and you hike right after arriving. The homestay was just what we needed and we had a good 5 hours of rest before heading to the trailhead. That extra sleep was valuable for us.
We chose to leave at 11am and do the temple and photo stop. We were ambivalent about those, so you might just want to choose to leave at 2pm and skip those stops.
The hike for us middle aged folks was intense but doable. The trail up to the crater is wide and well kept but STEEP. We went at our own pace and our guide, Sherly, was cool with that. The only downside of going slowly was when we got down to the crater to see the blue flames it was a bit crowded. We then hiked up to see the sunrise and it was stunning... Even more than the blue flames. Shirley got some great photos of us and shared them.
Forehead lights and masks are included, but we paid 50,000 each at the supply station to rent hiking poles too. Our driver, Heru, was a great gentleman and got us there safely and cautiously. This excursion was definitely worth it!

The best money you could ever spen in Indonesia, you don't have to worry anything, they will pick you up with a private car which only carries your group (even only one person). Drive you to the hotel (near the volcano), you can eat and sleep for some time, then star to hike. The driver and the guide are really nice, are willing to talk and make you feel wellcom. Meanwhile, the guide will take you lots of photos and videos, it's a very good service, so you could keep the memories.
