The instructions said we were to meet one hour after hour ship docked, but our gangplank didn't go down until 8:30 so I thought we had until 9:30 to get to the pickup point. When we arrived at 9:15 the bus had already left. Fortunately they called the driver on his cell and he came back and picked us up. Then, a long 45 minute drive on a boring road to get to the ruins where we dropped off most of the passengers. The highlight of the tour is now there were only four of us left, along with our guide Magali, to go to the Mayan food cooking demonstration. That was interesting enough, and then another van took us to the Seven Color Lagoon. Instead of a tour of the lagoon, we go to sit on a private "beach" and the open bar only included two drinks. The area was quite small, the entrance to the water was very rocky, and although they offered use of the kayaks no one bothered. Then, on the way back we had to share a van which was completely full, the A/C wasn't working very well, and the road was extremely rough. Costa Maya is basically a made up cruise port and we would not choose to go back.

We loved our Costa Maya experience on this tour! Our original tour (Mayan Experience and Bacalar) was canceled because there was only 1 cruise ship in port and not enough people interested in this exact tour, but the company was kind enough to rebook us on a combined Chachoben and Bacalar tour, which we thoroughly enjoyed! Erick was a fantastic tour guide for the Mayan Ruins at Chachoben, full if knowledge about the area we drove through, the Yucatan Peninsula, and also the Mayan way of living. We did not do the full Chachoben tour with him as we broke off to go to Bacalar but he was fantastic. Then we spent the afternoon with 2 other couples and went to a private resort on Bacalar Lagoon. Since there was only 1 cruise ship in this day, it was only us at the resort and it was an incredible private experience. The fajitas were fantastic, drinks were great, and Selina took so many photos for us. She was a fantastic, fun tour guide who happily played music on a speaker she brought, brought us drinks made by Noe the bartender, and let us kayak/paddleboard along the quiet lagoon. I wish I had brought my book! The water was so clear, not cold, and incredibly beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and are grateful to this amazing, well-organized company for rebooking us last minute due to the cancellation. HIGHLY recommend any tour with them as they are extremely organized, have great AC on the buses, are on-time, and knowledgable with the best tour guides around.

This was hands down the best local experience. We had a very knowledgeable driver who shared the town history with us. The ladies were incredible, they taught us how to make tortillas and they were incredible. They also had some local handmade things for sale and I got a beautiful small purse. We felt like family as she gave us a tour of the grounds and fruit trees, and gardens.

Amazing !!! Rosie and driver were so awesome! The family we spent time with cooking and eating were so hospitable. This is definitely a must do experience! The stop at the lagoon for a drink and swim was the perfect ending.

This was such a wonderful experience. First of all, we used Native Choice for our tour. We had some issues with communication, but all the other tours that were lined up helped us find our way and we were off. Our tour guide, Selina, was the most amazing human. We loved her so much and really felt like she was part of our "familia." From the moment we stepped on the bus, she made us feel welcome and made sure we had a great time. She never asked for a tip which was huge for us. Every tour we go on asks for a tip. Of course, we gave her a tip, but to not even ask was a big deal because she was so humble and grateful. She was one of the highlights of our time in Costa Maya.

We were on Symphony of the Seas, so it was tempting to stay on the ship for Costa Maya. I had read that there wasn't much to do and it was best to stay on the boat. I completely disagree. The people there were not pushy. All of the tour people were willing to go out of their way and help you even if your tour was not with them. If you stay on the boat, you will miss these wonderful people.

The Bacalar and Mayan Experience tour was great. The Mayan experience was amazing. These ladies were so kind. They taught us to make tamales and were very patient with us white people who had no idea what we were doing. (But now I am going to make tamales for the holidays!) The food was wonderful! It was really a special experience for a ship excursion. While we ate, Selina showed us pictures of her family in Cancun (their home). She really made us feel welcome. There were things to buy from the Mayan ladies but there was no push at all to purchase anything unlike other tours where they corner you.

Bacalar was fun as well. It was overcast and so we didn't get to see all the colors, but we had yummy Pina Colada's and went kayaking. Selina was right there making sure we had everything we needed and even went behind the bar and made our drinks for us when there was a wait.

You will not regret taking this tour and meeting the kind, humble and loving people of Costa Maya.
