If you look at the itinerary shown on this, it clearly shows the ruins at Tulum first, and then some shopping addition. That is what I was aware of when I booked this tour for our family of four. We were picked up on time and the van made another stop to pick up two additional passengers. Imagine our surprise when we were taken straight to the jewelry place, and then the tequila right after. Who wants to sample tequila at 10am? I'm also not trying to have a mandatory showroom tour for jewelry the quality of which I cannot verify, with a pushy salesman. The six of us were obviously confused by everything, that doesn't make people more likely to spend money...
When it became clear towards the end of our "tour," that nobody was going to purchase any jewelry, the guy had the nerve to try and guilt us into making a purchase "you know our company pays for your transportation today so 80% of people actually do buy something." If I had been on the fence, that would've for sure been the time when I would drop whatever I thought about buying. No buddy, we paid for our transportation, $127 roundtrip to be exact (and since you're still paying admissions once you finally get to Tulum, you ARE paying for transportation only). My husband wound up getting some tequila next door, but I had already mentally checked out at that point.

By the time we were finally dropped at Tulum, it was almost noon with the sun at its highest.

We almost literally had to fight off more pushy people who tried to sell us a guide, the ticket booth only accepts exact change in cash (we paid in pesos, mind you), and by the time we got to the ruins, we were all so darn hot and miserable that we just wanted to get it over with

Luckily once we left we found a great small restaurant where we had an amazing lunch, that made up for the horrible morning.

Generally, if you add the "shopping" after the ruins that people actually want to see, I bet you would sell more. And for the love of God, stop with the pushy salespeople. Let people roam around and explore, be available for questions etc.

Definitely don't recommend this provider

The reservation said it was a tour of Tulum. We were first taken to an over priced jewelry store & bullied for not purchasing anything. Then to Tulum & basically dumped out for 3 hrs. People there again bullied us about spending more money on a tour guide. We didn’t purchase any of this. All we got for the tour price was a ride there & back. It was a terrible experience. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

Picked up at 8AM from hotel lobby. Got the tour of Tulum and free time until 1PM as expected. Tulum was beautiful and the beach was really nice. We expected to get back to the hotel by 2PM but since we left at 1PM, we ended up getting back at 3PM. The bus broke down on the side of the road during the drive back but the tour guides handled it well and a backup bus came for us around 15 minutes after.

The tour guide was excellent and very entertaining, but didn't tell us much beyond anything we could have read on signs or looked up on wikipedia. The tour itself lasted maybe 20-30 minutes with the rest of the time to ourselves.

Giving 1 star due to scheduling/time issues.

The description for this tour states a 4-5 hour commitment. Had we not taken a taxi home it would have been an 8 hour trip double what they stated.

Tulum is 45-50 minutes away from our resort via taxi, but it took 2.5 hours for them to get us there.

That's partly because they were 45 minutes late we were supposed to be picked up at 7am, partly because they picked up other guests, and partly because they changed vehicles halfway there.

They told us to return to the bus at 12:30, at which point I anticipate it would have taken another 2-3 hours to get everyone home.

Completely unacceptable, in my opinion. If you know this going into it and are ok with it, then great, but we had made other plans for the day and had we not taken a taxi home, we would have missed them.

Tulum is amazing and you should go, but take a taxi there and back - should be 45-50 USD each way. Add to that the entrance fee and it would cost 2 people the same as this tour, but only take 3-4 hours out of your day.

They were a half hour late picking us up from our resort and we were given an extra hour of free time which was not needed. We originally thought we would be back by 11:30am or 12 noon at the latest to our resort based on the timeline listed in the tour but we didn't get back until 2pm! We had other things planned that had to be cancelled because of this so we weren't very happy about it. However, Tulum was beautiful and our tour director was very informative and entertaining and even shared cookies with us that his grandmother made which was a nice touch. Had the time of the tour not grossly exceeded what was advertised I would have given this a 5 but since the main reason I chose this tour was because of the time frame, I've given it a 3.
