Firstly, Halong Bay is a very commercialised tourist trap which I personally think is very overrated. However having visited 15 years ago as a couple we decided to return with our kids so they could see it themselves.
So I tried to find a good boat and I think I booked Alisa based on the reviews I saw. In reality it was very disappointing however. We got 2 rooms adjoining but the beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable. The food was only ok and the excursions were basic compared to others I have seen since through friends. The 4 of us could not wait to get off.
The staff are all lovely and normally I wouldn’t leave a bad review but I really felt ripped off for what we paid, which was obviously way too much. Not only was the food average but the drinks were overpriced - the cheapest bottle of wine was US$70 (for a wine that could be purchased for 10% of that).
If you must visit Halong bay and you want a high-end experience, this is not the option for you. This is probably the equivalent of a 2* or 3* hotel.
