I bought a private tour with my husband to the lake but when we came to the lake itself turned out we have to take tour with local guide and a huge group of other tourust.
It's not allowed to get to the lake alone ( with our own guide from this agency), you have to go 1,5 hours with the whole group and with stops every 2 minutes . You cannot turn back and you cannot go in your own tempo too.
These are the rules of the lake, and no one warned us about it before, this is exactly the type of excursion I hate and would never go if I knew.
My husband had a knee surgery and he cannot stand too long , so walking 1,5 hour with constant stops is impossible for him. We tried to get a permission to walk with our guide fast to the point where we can see lake, but it's not allowed.
After we found that out we asked manager who sold us tour to solve this fairly ,I didn't expect for full refund, only partial - but we got nothing.

- I asked manager Miguel Montoya before buying if we can stop the tour at any time or if we can make it fast, and he said yes - which was a lie. We feel scammed and disappointed with such attitude!

A very amazing place from the natural pint of view and for its history, which relates to the legend of Eldorado and to the subsequent search of gold of the Spanish

Our tour guide, Anna, was super knowledgeable about the history of Lake Guatavitá and the peoples of the region. She was very sweet and took us for a meal and shopping afterwards. The lake was beautiful and so were the mountains. Great exercise if you like hiking. 10/10

Lake Guatavita was an amazing experience. I highly recommend going with Anna Maria as your tour guide/translator. She was very enthusiastic and patient. She also had a good knowledge of the history.

The weather was disappointing but my guide and translator made up for it. Engaging and very friendly throughout the tour. The stop in Guatavita town was a little short. I think that visitors might prefer to visit the reservoir which looked very scenic. Recommended if the weather is good. I visited in July and it was very rainy and misty.

This was such an excellent tour. My driver, Carlos, and my translater, Andrea Mora, were superior at doing their jobs and made the tour fun. I loved the history, earthly spirituality, and overall scenery of this place. I would highly recommend a visit here.

We were assigned a tourist guide, a young lady from a company named Transfer and Tours. Her name was Andrea. Unfortunately she didn't act like a tourist guide. She didn't talk to us during the whole time we were with her. She didn't explain anything to us, didn't welcome us and didn't ask any questions about our needs or concerns! The local guide inside the lagoon on the other hand was just fantastic! That saved the trip. If you ever plan this trip I highly recommend you to go to Guatavita but be sure you are not assigned a tourist guide from Transfer and Tours! They didn't take any responsibility when I called to explain my concerns about the lack professionalism from Andrea. Really bad experience!!

Our English tour guide Neutalya was very knowledgeable about Colombia and the Guatavita area. She turnt us over to our park tour guide whom proceeded to give the tour in both English and Spanish. I highly recommend this tour, after the moderate hike the views are breath taking.
