I went on this tour recently as this was my first time in Porto and the tour was recommended.
The tour guide Ralfe was fantastic he picked and dropped us off at the same location, and he had a great knowledge of the city and it’s rich history.
Amarante excelled my expectations, it is a beautiful city not only with an interesting history but one also filled with culture. The museum is a must see for art lovers!
It is not filled with tourists as Amarante is in the countryside, so not busy expect for local residents.
There are a few cafe’s for lunch/coffee if needed.
I would advise comfortable shoes, water if going in summer as it was very hot.
A little gem just outside of Porto and worth a visit.

What an absolutely fantastic day, I highly recommend this tour with Ralfe! His local knowledge is second to none, he made me feel incredibly safe and comfortable. We had beautiful food and wine, and the views over the water were incredible. I especially liked the steps over the river - really cool! Ralfe is funny and easy going - I will remember my experience fondly. 6*'s!

I had a great time with Ralfe; I would have never considered a trip to Amarante on my own, so I'm glad he offers this tour. Amarante is very small, but gorgeous and tranquil, and I was happy to spend a few hours there just enjoying its energy. The São Gonçalo bridge is an amazing centerpiece to the town, over a lazy river where you can rent paddle boats, but I opted for the museum, where I was extremely glad to discover the works of Amadeo da Souza-Cardozo, and then we had a delicious lunch in the coolest little authentic Portuguese tavern. There are lots of markets and little shops in town-- not really my thing, but there all kinds of beautiful souvenirs that are specific to Amarante. Ralfe got us there and back comfortably and in style in his Range Rover-- a nice touch! I highly recommend this tour, thank you Ralfe!
