...And the best of plans get foiled. Or so I thought. My girlfriend and I jumped on this vacation admittedly last minute. That is how you roll when one of us works in consulting.

I tried my best to incorporate a proposal within this trip. The Sun Gate on the Inca trail was the goal setting.

I booked one tour and then planned around that the rest of the trip to have that tour canceled. Rinse a repeat a few times.

That is when Yenesia in Peruvian Guiding Tours contacted me and said there were a few spots for the Friday. Not the plan I had, but roll with it.

I was at first a bit apprehensive to book directly to speed it up and increase our chances. Yenesia knew the plan. She also met with me to calm my nerves.

In the end it worked out as best I could have hoped under all the circumstances. PGT was super communicative, ultra accommodating, and went the extra mile and a half on the whole booking.
They had the guide bring a small bottle of champagne. He knew the best place since another kink came up. They even took me to the airport in the morning which was outside the booking.

Miguel was an amazing guide. So truly sincere and knowledgeable. A very kind hearted person. It is clearly his passion to teach and guide. We had an amazing hike and tour. We won't forget our amigo Miguel.

I did the Inca Trail with Franklin as my guide. He had a local and deep knowledge about the Inca Trail and culture. Throughout the trek, he enthusiastically shared how the different ruins played a role in Inca traditional life and the theories behind how and/or why they've been built. Through his commentary, I developed an in-depth insight on these ruins and it went beyond just being a photo opportunity. Franklin knew the trial terrain well and was able to outline what I was to expect for the day ahead. As a regular walker, it helped me to think/plan how I'd accomplish the walk.

Franklin was caring, engaged and at times when I had to slow my pace down to catch my breath, he stay closed to me. Franklin led the porters and chefs and they worked in unison to deliver a memorable and superb experience for me. Having done guided walking tours regularly, I would highly recommend using Franklin as your guide if you decide to do the Inca Trail.

The Inca trail was an incredible experience! I cannot recommend a better way to get to Machu Picchu and I cannot recommend a better tour company than Wayki Trek. We knew were were in good hands from the moment we inquired via email. The office was easy to communicate with and quick to respond to all of our questions. Every detail of our trip was carefully thought out and we were given top notch service.

The equipment provided is fantastic. Everything from the tents, sleeping bags, even the duffels provided for our personal gear is of the highest quality to ensure that we were as comfortable as possible. I do recommend packing your own silk sleeping bag liner as the sleeping bags kept us WARM in the cold nights and a silk liner might be more comfortable against your skin if you choose not to sleep in long sleeves and pants. They’re also light weight and won’t add too much to your porters

Our staff was AMAZING. We would not have had the same experience without them. Our head porter Modesto kept all of our gear well organized and our campsites we well keptv. Tents were set up and broken down for us.drinking water was always available. They even provided us with warm water in the evening to wash up with. We felt so pampered. All of the porters were a treat and I’m so grateful for their help and their company.

I cannot believe how good the food was! We were served fresh fruit, vegetables and protein at every meal. I am not exaggerating when I say that it was some of the best food we had in all of Peru. Our head chef Xenón and sous chef Alfredo are both truly talented. It was such a pleasure to have them as a part of our team, not only for their skills in “kitchen” with extremely limited equipment, but also for their company and conversation. I wish them the best of luck in all of their future endeavors.

The cherry on top of our whole trip was Franklin!! I feel so fortunate to have had the pleasure of spending 5 days of my life with this incredible human. He set a tone for a trip that was unique. He emphasized on the first day that the secret to our trip was teamwork. We left camp together, took breaks together and arrived at camp together. We shared laughs, snacks, photos and even the contents of each others packs when we needed it. We saw several other groups on the trail and I don’t think that any of them came away with the same friendships as we did and we have Frankie to thank for orchestrating it all. Frankie gave us great insight into the life of the Incas and shared his knowledge of their culture, ingenuity and spirituality of the land we walked. Thank you, Franklin, for changing my life and the way I see the world.

Also, if you have the time I highly recommend participating in the optional night in the porters village. We were warmly welcomed by the farming community, well fed and cared for and were given the opportunity to participate in some really great “activities” (I won’t give it all away!)

I was able to do the Inca trek in October 2023 with the Wayki Trek travel agency and our wonderful guide Franklin. We were a group of 5 people (customers). So a very small group! You should know that wayki trek always favors small groups. On the other hand, there was a fantastic team around us: 10 porters and two cooks! Suffice it to say that these are good camping conditions. We ate really well!!! The cooks even prepare a special menu for you if you have a specific diet (vegetarian, etc.) or if you don't like a specific food. A super personalized service!
Of course the product they offer, the Inca Trek, is fantastic. Breathtaking landscapes, nature that changes throughout the Inca trek and a finale with the incredible Machu Picchu. The first day is training, the second is a challenge with a summit over 4200 meters, the third is very cultural with the visit of many Inca sites and the last with Machu Picchu is incredible!
But in fact with the Wayki Trek agency, there is one more day before the famous Inca trek! You are going to a house of one of the porters! You sleep at their place, you eat at their place, meals (lunch, dinner and breakfast) prepared by them, activities prepared by them (walk by a lake, introduction to potato planting, local dance with typical music, etc).
In short, 4 unforgettable nights and 5 days! Don't visit Machu Picchu like 90% of people but do the Inca trek and with Wayki trek and Franklin! You will not regret it !

Really enjoyable, somewhat difficult hike. Franklin was knowledgeable about how to handle my friends' altitude sickness. He was friendly and polite.

Franklin is the man!!! Attentive and super cheerful, Franklin made our arduous trek bearable! He was always cheering us on and giving us peace and quiet when we needed. He was generous in sharing his life stories including that of his parents and parents-in-law, which helped us understand more about Peruvians, Peruvian culture and traditions, both old and current. Franklin also led his team well and ensured there was no miscommunication and so everything worked seamlessly well.
I would never forget his loud laughter, which was so infectious and genuine!
Will definitely recommend him as a guide to friends and loved ones, young and old!

I had an incredible time being guided by Franklin for the Inca trail. His wife was very helpful with picking me up from the Cusco airport and getting me familiar with the city. If you have an interest in doing the Inca trail, I highly recommend signing up with Peruvian Guiding Tours.
