The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. The word acropolis is from the Greek words ἄκρον (akron, "highest point, extremity") and πόλις (polis, "city"). The term acropolis is generic and there are many other acropoleis in Greece. While there is evidence that the hill was inhabited as far back as the fourth millennium BC, it was Pericles (c. 495–429 BC) in the fifth century BC who coordinated the construction of the buildings whose present remains are the site's most important ones, including the Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Erechtheion and the Temple of Athena Nike. The Parthenon and the other buildings were seriously damaged during the 1687 siege by the Venetians during the Morean War when gunpowder being stored in the Parthenon by the Ottomans was hit by a cannonball and exploded.

Mount Lycabettus, Athens Greece Then moving into the historical center of the city we will drive up the highest hill of Athens, Lycabettus Hill, where you’ll have the best panoramic view of the city, from the hill of Acropolis to the Aegean Sea.Mount Lycabettus also known as Lycabettos, is a Cretaceous limestone hill in the Greek capital Athens. At 277 meters (908 feet) above sea level, its summit is the highest point in Central Athens and pine trees cover its base. The name also refers to the residential neighbourhood immediately below the east of the hill. The hill is a tourist destination and can be ascended by the Lycabettus Funicular, a funicular railway which climbs the hill from a lower terminus at Kolonaki (The railway station can be found at Aristippou street). At its two peaks are the 19th century Chapel of St. George, a theatre, and a restaurant. At Lycabettus hill, you will encounter a breathtaking panoramic view of the city.

The Corinth Canal is a waterway that crosses the narrow isthmus of Corinth to link the Gulf of Corinth to the Saronic Gulf. As such, the canal separates the Greek mainland from the Peloponnese, turning it into an island The canal, though executed in the late 19th century, has been a 2000-year-old dream. Before its construction, ships in the Aegean Sea that wanted to cross to the Adriatic or anchor in Corinth, a rich shipping city, had to circle the Peloponnese, which would prolong their journey an extra 185 nautical miles. It is believed that Periander, the tyrant of Corinth (602 BC), was the first to conceive of the idea of digging the Corinth Canal. As the project was too complicated given the limited technical capabilities of the times, Periander constructed the diolkos, a stone road which allowed ships to be transferred on wheeled platforms.

Corinth is also mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles as part of Paul the Apostle's missionary travels. In addition, the second book of Pausanias' Description of Greece is devoted to Corinth. Ancient Corinth was one of the largest and most important cities of Greece, with a population of 90,000 in 400 BC. The Romans demolished Corinth in 146 BC, built a new city in its place in 44 BC, and later made it the provincial capital of Greece.

Michael was our tour guide and driver. He did a very good job informing us about the sites and we also had several other conversations which made us feel connected and welcomed. Our family was the only "group"of this tour so we really felt we could be ourselves.
There was a slight misunderstanding with our pick up time and also about the nature of the tour itself as we had it customized to our preferences. Communication with the person doing the actual tour is vital here. We spoke with one of the bosses who was on holiday. No matter--these things happen.
We had a long day of touring and saw all the key sites we wanted to see. Michael went out of his way to show us everything. I found it helpful for him to tell us what time he expected us back which allowed us to see almost everything equally. Our itinerary was really full so we didn't spend that much time in the last place but that was our fault. We enjoyed looking at the historical sites and because we are history nerds, we ended up spending too much time in some places.
I highly recommend this tour but please make sure you communicate with the person in charge of the tour to avoid misunderstandings. Also, make sure you know what is included in the tour and what is not. All entries to historical sites are NOT included.

Costas was an amazing tour guide who was willing to go out of his way to make sure our tour went perfect. He explained the history of Corinth and led us through an amazing journey of Paul’s footsteps and it was everything we paid for and more. A bonus was that he brought us to a nice seaside restaurant where we had a great meal. Would highly recommend Costas

Constantinos was a fantastic guide, second to none! Very knowledgeable and super friendly. We still communicate with him via WhatsApp months later. We even opened our home to he and his wife when the visit America. Knowledge of St Paul was incredible. Saw him a couple days later in Delphi per his suggestion, that is providence. God bless him!!

We did the Corinth Full Day private tour with Costas. It was an incredible experience. Costas was amazing and gracious. We enjoyed every stop along the way and Costas was incredibly knowledgeable of each location we stopped at. We followed up with a lovely lunch on the beach. It was incredible to have a guide so knowledgeable about the life of Paul and his journey through Greece for a tour of this caliber and nuance.
