I will never forget this place nor our guide George Weru. We are so lucky to have chosen this tour and this Mara Lodge. We were picked up at our Nairobi hotel and then we drove about 6 hours to the Serena Lodge. We stayed there for 3 nights. This was a really cool and beautiful lodge. It was a long drive but seeing the countryside, little towns and villages and the people was so worth it. We got a good look at this part of Kenya. It was just my sister and I, so we had the whole safari vehicle to ourselves. I liked that it wasn't one of those brand new ones, that was perfect inside. It was well loved and we had lots of leg room for the seats behind the driver and cup holder spots and a cubby for binoculars, phone, glasses, etc. It was easy to move around and we were allowed to eat and drink in it as well as we could stand on the seats without our shoes on to get a better look at all the great things we saw. I loved that. We felt safe with George and his driving, even on the sometimes crazy highway. The Mara Serena is way inside the park and this was such an advantage. We were right in the middle of the action. The Lodge is spectacular! The views were endless and peaceful. Every room has a view of the savannah. Animals were seen from the terraces and rooms regularly. I loved these views!! Loved it! The people are beautiful and lovely. They were one of the best parts. The drives to find animals were, every time successful. George can see a dot in the grass that is something hiding, when we saw nothing. While driving! And we found everybody!! More than once. Except the leopard and rhino. We found those two just once. Really great! And the rhino was as we were exiting the park to leave. Five minutes before we went through the gate. Unbelievable!! George said- You never know, anything can happen. And it did. We were so lucky. We saw lions with cubs, cheetah, hippo, giraffe, crocodiles, hyena, warthogs- the cutest things ever - baboons with babies, monkeys, jackal, many elephants, and zillions of zebra, buffalo and wildebeest. And tons of beautiful and interesting birds. And many impala, gazelle, eland, waterbuck, antelope, hartebeest, topi. At the lodge, lizards, baboons and mongoose aplenty. Beautiful animals. We were so lucky to see a river crossing for the migration too. So lucky. We cheered them on as they ran from the river and no one got munched by crocodile this time. Yay!! The peace and freedom I felt here was immense. Wide, open space. I loved it. We saw the animals, all happy and living free. We saw the people, beautiful, so nice and very happy to help with anything. This experience far exceeded my thoughts and expectations. George and Pongezi were very easy to work with in planning this trip. George helped so much in making this a wonderful experience. We learned so much from him. About Kenya, the people and the animals. I knew this trip would be amazing and wonderful, but I never thought it would be this amazing and wonderful. My life has been enriched by this experience. I will never forget it. Never. Thank you so much George. Sincerely, Stacy P.S. We also went to Taita Hills and Amboseli with George for 2 nights at each lodge prior to the Mara. I will also review that tour. It was equally wonderful.
