This cyclical movement performs an indispensable function for the balance of its ecosystem: high tide becomes a problem for Venice only when it exceeds the level of 80 cm, the limit beyond we can speak of "Acqua Alta" ("High water")

Understand the complicated mix of phenomena causing Acqua Alta and why some are predictable and others much less. You will discover why rain has nothing do to with it and how lunar phases and astronomical tides, strong winds low pressure plays a much bigger role.

You will get explained how is possible that with 80 cm tides your feet keep dry and why a tide of 140cm is impacting the city so hardly.

Get back to the 60s, when a tragedy renamed the "aqua granda" occurred due to an exceptional wave of bad weather hitting all of Italy. Back those days Venice experienced one of the most tragic days in its history, with the tide reaching the highest peak ever recorded in the history. We will understand how this event impacted the development of the city and life of its inhabitants in the following decades.

Venice experienced a similar situation on the evening in 2019, making clear that natural events are more and more linked with global climate changes and over tourism exploiting the city. We will understand more about what happened visiting some places heavily impacted back on those days.

The goal was to get to know Venice from a different perspective, with a bit of history and knowledge. Valerio brought all of this to life for us. We were traveling as a family and were amazed at how many other sides of Venice there are. It was a lot of fun and it won't be the last tour with Valerio.

We had a great time with Valerio!
We took this tour on the first day of our visit and it was just perfect. A good balance between informations and fun facts. He is a true local Venitian and it makes the diffence, you can feel it like the way he shows you the streets. He gave us plenty of tips and recommendations for things to do and where to eat and drink. I will definitly recommend this tour if you wanna get the vibe of Venice!

My girlfriend and I contacted Valerio, through acquaintances who had already taken advantage of a tour and were enthusiastic, and he kindly made himself available to accompany us around Venice.
His presence completely changed our experience in the city, at every corner a curiosity, a detail unknown to most people, making us feel in complete harmony with it, as if we were seasoned Venetians (for me it was the first time in Venice, for the my girlfriend didn't, but according to her she discovered many things she had no idea about).
In short, Valerio allowed us to live a wonderful experience thanks to his competence and kindness that we will never forget.

Amazing experience. We had our own small family guide all day. We got lost in the streets of Venice with a local. We had our 10 and 12 year olds in tow. He made it exciting for everyone. I would highly recommend!!

We had a Venice tour with Valerio - away from the tourist crowds. What can I say? It was just like that! Valerio is a friendly, nice and funny man! We learned a lot about Venice and its people! Absolutely recommended! We are already looking forward to the next tour next year! Grazie Mille Valerio!

Amazing guide. A true local who knows inside out. So friendly, very good english, lots of small anecdotes. Was with my 11yr old son and the level of details and tone was just perfect - not too much not too little. Also took the time to give recommendations for the rest of the trip
