WHAT'S INCLUDED

WHAT TO EXPECT

1.
We'll begin our tour outside the beautiful Geiger-Audubon Home and discuss its unique design features, gardens, and how it started the historic restoration efforts for all of Old Town Key West.
2.
We'll pass by the stunning Old Customs House. We will discuss why it was constructed of brick, the many fascinating design anomalies it contains since the designers never visited Key West, and the restoration efforts that have turned it into a fantastic museum.
3.
We'll stroll into the beautiful Truman Annex Neighborhood, talk about the important history it played as a military base, and visit the beautiful Presidential Gates.
4.
We'll walk past the Truman Little White House and learn about President Truman's time in Key West and the historic events surrounding his Key West White House.
5.
We'll see the original Pan American Airlines office and learn about the birth of international aviation in the United States. We will stop outside the building for an opportunity to take photos and for your guide to share stories and the history of the location. We will not be going inside the building.
6.
We'll stop at the Captain George Carey- Jesse Porter- Robert Frost house to discuss its unique history, unusual color scheme, and the many celebrities who have been entertained there over the years.
7.
We'll stop to admire the grandeur of the Dr. Joseph Yates Porter Mansion and discuss the role Dr. Porter and the mansion played in eradicating Yellow Fever in Florida.
8.
We'll stop outside to view the Victorian splendor of the Curry-Amsterdam Mansion, discuss this family's incredible legacy of seven mansions in Key West, and the historic events that took place in the home's original kitchen.
9.
We'll pass by Casa Antigua and talk about its unusual origins, its history with Ernest Hemingway, and the famous book he authored there.
10.
We will view the beautiful George Henry Curry Mansion- noted for its magnificent styling, wrap-around veranda, and other unique features.
11.
We'll stop to see the stunning beauty of the unique "Octagonal House" and learn about its history, its famous owners, and the stir it caused when it sold in 1981.
12.
We'll pass by the unique beauty of the Freeman-Curry Mansion, learn about it being moved, and how it has only been sold once in over 155 years.
13.
We will wrap up the tour with a discussion about "the Conch Republic" and a look at John Bartlum's Bahama House with its unique age and how John Bartlum was able to "build" the house.

Richard was FABULOUS! We had a very small group tour with only one other couple in it, so the tour felt intimate and there were plenty of opportunities to ask any questions we may have had. Our guide Richard was very informative and you could tell he is passionate about what he does/what he was telling us about Key West. I have been to Key West before, but this is a tour I wish I had done in the past, there was so much I was just learning about for the first time! I would recommend this tour for anybody that is wanting to learn more about Key West and the history behind Key West! 10/10!!!!

Our guide Richard was very informative and entertaining on this tour. He is from one of the first families in Key West and has a wealth of information and stories about the area. He was also very kind about finding the shady spots to stop and give us time for questions and taking pictures. I would definitely go on this tour again just to hear more of his insight.

Absolutely excellent tour. Given by someone who is not only a true local (born and raised) but a resident historian of Key West. The amount of knowledge he shared - in such an accessible way - was extraordinary. I have now done both of this group's tours, and they are both fabulous.

My husband and I had the pleasure of taking this tour last week while in Key West. Richard has an incredible amount of history to share about the island, its people, and its architecture that goes back 100’s of years and into the present. He makes it so interesting, that you feel you almost know the characters and their personalities - some of whom were his own relatives. The homes they lived in, how and why they were built, and the stories that surround it all are both fascinating and entertaining. We enjoyed ourselves tremendously, and you will too. Whether it’s your first time or tenth time to Key West, this is a tour not to miss. I promise you will learn something new and have fun too! Afterwards Richard sent all 4 couples on the tour a detailed list of favorite restaurants on the island from casual to fine dining and even what to order while there. So helpful!

This is my 4th time to Key West from California. Wish I had done this tour on my first time! I learned so much from Richard. Highly recommend!!! Do it right when you get here. It will make your time in Key West that much more memorable.
