A Private Tour of Herculaneum to visit the archaeological site.
There will be no other guides besides me and you are guaranteed to be with an archaeological guide. After the experience, you can stay on the site until closing and continue exploring the beauties with the advice I will give you.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Meeting point: ticket office of the archaeological site of Herculaneum, it will be possible to buy the entrance tickets (if you haven't bought in advanced or if you haven't purchased online). The entrance ticket to the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum will give you the opportunity to see all the attractions and houses present during the tour. The guide will be waiting for you with a sign to be recognized: "Eliana Sandretti".

We will see the skeletons of people who died during the eruption and we will look out on the terrace to imagine the panorama before the great explosion of Vesuvius.

La Casa dei Cervi is a luxurious house with a terrace overlooking the sea.
4.
The name of the domus is due to a high relief where the myth of Telephus was illustrated.
5.
The Casa del Tramezzo di Legno is named after the discovery of a wooden partition that was charred due to the eruption of Vesuvius.
6.
The house of the Black Room owes its name to its salon painted in black. It is one of the most luxurious domus in Herculaneum.
7.
We will see the boat charred by the eruption of Vesuvius and recently discovered.
8.
The College of the Augustales preserves the frescoes representing Hercules entering Olympus. In this room the skeleton of the keeper who died during the eruption.
9.
The House of the Skeleton of Herculaneum owes its name to the discovery of the skeleton of an inhabitant who was unable to save himself.
10.
The Samnite House is one of the oldest houses in Herculaneum
11.
The House of Neptune and Amphitrite is an environment that leaves you speechless with its rich scenographic compositions.

This was a great experience. Our archeologist, Francesco, was extremely knowledgable and answered every question we had. He kept a great pace even with the heat and my father who was difficulty with stairs. We would recommend this to anyone. We enjoyed this more than our trip to Pompei.

Our guide, an archeologist himself, was knowledgeable an personable. .Francesc was interesting and made the 2 hours of visit fly by. Herculaneum is such an interesting site and our group learned a lot about The Roman culture around the time of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. I highly recommend his tour.

We took this as a pair with a private tour of Pompeii, also from Eliana's business. We spread the tours over two days, which I recommend, and were greeted by our guide from Pompeii, Luciana, as we breakfasted in a cafe just outside the gates of the archeological site. It's much smaller than Pompeii, but better preserved, so you can see the carbonised remains of wooden items, upper storeys of the buildings, and beautiful mosaics and decorations.

Luciana was once again a great guide, patient with my 8 yo son who absolutely loved her and grabbed her hand. She was able to bring the history absolutely to life, and it was if anything a better tour than the superb Pompeii one the previous day. The private tour allowed us to move at our own pace, and we never felt rushed or that we were listening to a prepared script.

So very highly recommended. It's not the cheapest tour, but it's the best way of seeing the site.

We visited Herculaneum with Eliana after a fantastic morning spent with her in Pompei. This site is very different but her passion and expert knowledge brought it to life and then some! To understand how an archaeologist works and how dangerous some of the work is to enable the world to discover life as it was nearly 2000 years ago is incredible…….and Eliana still works at these sites to this day, exposing more of this ancient world for us. This personal insight made it all the more special and my wife and I will never forget our day in Herculaneum and Pompei and we’re honoured to have spent it with Eliana. She even gave us tips and recommendations for our visit a couple of days later to Naples which were invaluable for navigating this chaotic and vibrant city, making our Pompei and Herculaneum trip even more meaningful! Invest in booking Eliana - absolutely 100% recommend!
