Riding the Icelandic horse is must-do at least once during your visit. It connects you to Icelandic history and allows you to experience the most authentic travel method there is in Iceland. Lava tour is a more popular and ideal adventure for beginners as well as experienced. During the tour you will ride in beautiful landscape with the view of lava, lakes, and mountains around you. For 1.5 to 2 hours, or 4 hours with transfer, your tour offers you a relaxing coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Included are riding helmets, rubber boots, rain wear, or warm outfit for your ride.

We did the pickup/drop off service as well as the ride. The van is white and clearly marked and arrived a bit early to the pickup time. A bit disorganized when we got to the stable but plenty of time for bathroom and looking around. They fitted helmets and as needed layers were available but not needed for our tour. They also had rubber boats if those were needed. The horses were adorable, we were matched with skill appropriate horses and staff ensured properly fitting tack and helmets. We mounted from the ground, no block available, but as the horses are short it was doable for me. We split into a “fast” and “slow” group which allowed riders to ride to their skill level. I was in the “fast” group and we were able to tölt and see more of the landscape. A true 2 hour ride with a 15 min or so break to allow the horses to graze and for photos. I would do this again! Only thing is that we left people behind for the return bus, so be wary to watch for the bus almost immediately upon return to the stable. Additionally there was no secure locker for valuables and no bags were allowed on the ride. They did offer to keep it behind the front desk instead of a locker. I would absolutely recommend this especially with groups of mixed skill levels.

Being 70 years old and a novice rider, I was a little nervous. Guides were very good and horses were gentle. Partway through, Grandkids were given the opportunity to go with the fast group and really ride. Fun way to spend an afternoon and see some of the countryside

This was a highlight of our family trip (3 generations) to Iceland. All of us enjoyed our horseback rides and the people who led and assisted our group were wonderful. I had not been on a horse since my honeymoon 50 years ago. But I really wanted to go and so did six grandkids/adult kids. For most, it was the first time on a horse. The scenery was gorgeous. Two of our favorite horses were Regna and Sleeping Beauty, but the managers did a great job of matching each of us to an appropriate horse. So glad we had this experience at these stables.

A lovely ride on beautiful horses. The Lupin flowers were in bloom, making the landscape a sea of purple. We got to trot a few times, which was very fun. Guides made sure everyone was comfortable and were very helpful and friendly.

They picked us up at our hotel with no extra cost. They were a bit late because they had other people to pick up too. The activity was excellent for beginners and experienced riders because they split our group. They guides were very helpful and kind. This is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and feel the Icelandic air.

If you like horse back riding then this is an activity for you! My family really loved it. However, we came back with sore bottoms! Wear thick pants and take gloves with you! You will get dusty on the ride!

What a special outing. The landscape is stunning and the horses are happy and healthy. I appreciated how professional the entire experience was. They made it enjoyable for those who had never ridden as well as the experience rider. Fantastic thank you for the JOy

The horses were taken care of and well-behaved. It was less a trail ride than a ride on a well-kept Road. But still plenty of things to look at. The guides gave a lot of interesting information about the horses and the area. The horses didn’t seem to have bad attitudes towards each other like I’ve experienced on trail rides and other places. They split you into two groups partway through so if you wanted to move faster and had experience, you went one way but if you just wanted to enjoy an easy ride, you went the other way. I’m a fairly experienced rider and I thoroughly enjoyed the Tolt gate.
