We have over 50 years combined experience working and living at the Great mesoamerican reef here in Mahahual Costa Maya. We offer expertise on environmental conditions, as well as flora and fauna in the area, and our tours are always provided in English and in Spanish.
Our tour includes semi-professional snorkeling equipment (all cleaned and sanitized before and after every use) including fins, certified life vests, and a certified guide who will also take underwater photos of your experience as a courtesy.
We offer snacks to enjoy right on the boat! We provide water, beer, sports drinks and, with online reservations, our own La Leyenda Craft Beer for free.
Our beach is next to “Hotel 40 Cañones”, where you are free to lounge on the beach, use our kayaks and paddle boards.

You can go in the morning or in the afternoon, I prefer in the morning for the sun, the snorkeling is actually close to the beach, but it is still beautiful

We had an amazing experience! The tour guides were superb hosts. We had a wonderful time with them. Thoroughly enjoyed the beer and the guac they prepared for us on the boat. Highly recommend this excursion for active-minded persons who enjoy water activities.

We had a great experience with Bri and her family. They were very patient and excellent with our young daughter who struggled with the snirkeling mask. We also appreciated the beach area to hang out for a bit after the tour. Highly recommend!

My family had a wonderful unique experience. We had a private tour where we got to see sea turtles, lobster, squid, and a variety of beautiful fish. They provided snacks (fresh fruit and yummy guacamole) between our snorkeling sessions. Thanks for a great adventure.

Excellent tour! There were just three of us, including our teenage son, so we got a privilege of a private tour!
Family owned and operated, this tour is exactly what we wanted! David and Brie are very passionate about nature and love the reef. Brie’s brother was helping with boat and at the water, and her father was the captain of our boat.
The company stand is easy to find in front of the 40 Canones hotel. After the tour we stayed at the same beach, used their three hammocks and had nachos at the restaurant.
During the tour we did two long stops, Brie was guiding us in the water, her brother took pictures. We forgot our GoPro camera, so we felt really lucky to get some images from ‘under the sea’:) Brie had white fins, very helpful and easy to follow her.
We saw beautiful corals, huge variety and very impressive. Lots of colorful fish, lobsters and even leopard sting ray! The drinks were available anytime throughout the tour and guacamole (grandmother recipe!) was freshly prepared in front of us.
Very welcoming, we felt as a part of the family!

Dave, Chris and Brie were friendly and very professional. It was a treat to be in a tiny group rather than thronged by 60 other finned folks. We saw a Manatee and a large turtle among the beautiful fish and coral. Wonderful trip. Highly recommended. If you want to go where others aren't, this is for you.

La Leyena Eco-Tours is a wonderful family owned business. We did the 3-hour snokeling excursion and it did not disappoint--many muli-colored fish, turtles, a ray. Bri and her family are delightful and when they found things of interest, they were sure to swim over to us and lead us to the interesting sealife. The limited number of participants was a added bonus as we received individual attention.

The snorkeling was excellent. The crew was extremely helpful and experienced. Bree the owner, was delightful to be with. They are super conscious of the environment. They provided drinks and snacks. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
