WHAT TO EXPECT

our full day excursion begins in the morning, when our team members will pick you up from your hotel. You will be driven towards your first stop with a modern, fully air-conditioned and comfortable bus, accompanied by your tour guide.

The first stop of your excursion is at the Göreme Panorama. From there, you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views over the Göreme town. Therefore, make sure that you will snap some stunning photos of the area’s fairy chimneys.
3.
erinkuyu is your next stop as you will be visiting the underground city. This particular city is the largest and most popular among the 36 underground cities that can be found in Cappadocia. They were built as an escape area that Christians were using in order to avoid prosecutions. The underground city will impress you with its size as it has eight floors that include, among other rooms, a winery and kitchens. It is important to mention that only four floors are accessible. Once you are there, the guide will let you know interesting facts about the underground city.

After that, Cappadocia Green Tour continues towards Ihlara Valley which is a 14Km green river canyon. The bus will leave you at a certain point and together with your guide you will enjoy a 3,5Km walking along the river. There, you will get the chance to observe Ağaçaltı cave church that was built in the 4th century and includes paintings from the 10th century. The walking session ends at a point where a river side restaurant is.

At a river side local restaurant you will enjoy a much needed lunch break. During your time there, you will have the chance to recharge your batteries with energy and relax before continuing your excursion. The lunch includes soup, salad, and a choice between, trout, chicken, vegetarian meal, or meatballs.

Right after your lunch, the Cappadocia Green Tour continues towards the next stop which is the Selime Cave Monastery. The area showcases some interesting rock formations and the monastery is built at a cliff. When you are at the lower section of the cliff you can visit fairy chimneys and took some photos. The monastery dates back in 8th and 10th centuries. It includes a church, a living area and a missionary school. The design is imposing as it has high ceilings and balconies carved into the rock. On the opposite cliff you can observe the twin female monastery. Once again, the guide will provide an interesting briefing regarding the monastery’s history and importance.

A short photo-break follows at the Pigeon Valley, on the skirts of Göreme. Take a chance to admire nature and enjoy some panoramic views over the area. An interesting highlight is that the valley was named after the ancient pigeon houses that were carved into the cliff. The guide will provide an interesting description of the valley and will let you know everything you need to know about the area.

Onyx jewel factory is the last stop of this exciting excursion. After that, the bus will continue on its way back.

Half of the day was great, even thought the underground city initially offered for the day was changed for another one, but still good. The afternoon part, the Seleme Monastery was cut, which was one of our most wanted place to be visited, and instead, we were taken to a leather and a candy store, which for us and the rest of all passengers in the van, was a wasted time and money. We don’t know why tourist agency/operator altered the original plan offered by Viator.
Excellent tour guide and very punctual to pick up, this was a plus.!

Overall a great experience, except for some strange reason at the end instead of going to the monastery we ended up at an awkward leather coat fashion show/sales pitch for the most expensive leather goods I've ever seen.

Highlights
-Tour guide, Gigi was knowledgeable about the different places visited.
-The walk by the valley and the underground city.

Cons
-The places listed on the tour were not exactly the ones that we visited.
- Selime Monastery wasn’t included, even though it was listed.
- Derinkuyo was changed by Kaymakli which was good but not comparable.
-There were 2 shopping stops: leather and Jewelry. What a waste of time!!!
- Extra Long and slow line to buy the entrance ticket for the underground city.

Our tour guide was very nice. She was knowledgeable and provided very interesting and concise information about the historical background and significance of the places we visited. We also had enough time to enjoy the places we visited. The disappointing part of this experience was that it was different from what we signed up for. For example, Selime Monastery was not included. No explanation was given as to why. And the worst part was a half hour 'demonstration' at a leather store that no one in our group was interested in or signed up for. These changes made an otherwise very enjoyable trip an average experience. Viator should respect their customers' time and money and not force them to do things they didn't pay for. Like others in our group, I am very disappointed that our money was used to promote a company that profits from killing animals.

If it was just for the tour guide I’d give 5 stars. He was great. He is a freelancer though and has to do the tour he was assigned and our tour was apparently contracted out to another group and then to another. By the time we were midway on our tour we realized they some of the stops promised in what we booked through Viator were not on the tour. Specifically Selime monastery. It was a big disappointment. Other solo members on the tour tried calling the tour company and got different answers why we were not going there. Which is different from what our tour guide told us (that tour had been subcontracted out and no longer on itinerary) which was the most believable. Instead, they took us to a horribly cheesy leather company that did a fashion show for items trying to sell at around 1k usd. Most of it was knock off designer. Bad way to end the tour. The underground city was the only real highlight which is why I’m giving 3 stars. But honestly. Choose another tour company.

There were too many subcontractors for this trip which just messed up the tour plan, and in the end poor tourists suffered. Viator named local operator Payless travels in the booking but they subcontracted to Hector Tourism who further subcontracted to Felize Tourism. Midway through the tour, Felize's tour guide Melhi told us that Selime Monastery is not included in his tour plan whereas Viator itinerary clearly had this included. Out of the 14 onboard, 3 of us booked through Viator and faced this challenge. Despite our repeated request, guide refused to visit the monastery. Instead they forcibly included the leather factory fashion show in the itinerary which is nothing but an unnecessary trap for the tourists and usually part of the Cappadocia Green tour (i already visited there on the previous day during the Green (South Cappadocia) tour, booked through Viator and local operator Skyway travels). We separately chatted with Viator support but of no avail. I also chatted with Hector Tourism agent on WhatsApp but he tried to sell other trips citing 15% discount therein. Thankfully I didn't fall for that trap. They could have easily offered us the entrance fee to Ilhara valley museum at least, as an alternative but they didn't. Since we didn't want to go to the leather factory, we got dropped off at Uchisar and paid for a taxi to return to Goreme. Tour agency didn't even offer the taxi fare back.
So overall, an extremely dissatisfying experience.
Also, Hector agent gave funny reasons like it's govt policy not to enter a mosque, when I said Selime is not a mosque and a monastery from 1st century, he cowered.

We had a great time with Gigi, she was really good at providing insights to the area and history. The tour was great, gigi worked out the best route for the day based on weather and how busy places were. Everything we saw was lovely.

We had a great time with our green tour. Gigi took us to some great places with astonishing views and also to the amazing underground city of Kaimakli (at first I was worried because I thought it was going to be Derinkuyu) but at the end I didn't regret it a bit. It was such an incredible experience. We really enjoyed our tour. Totally recommended.
