Our guide was great. The cable car was shut down two days before we arrived and will be down for 18 months. Our guide drove us up the mountain, taking 45 minutes, but a good drive to see the scenery. We did not get to visit everything on our tour because of the extra time driving up and back from the mountain, but since the cable car will be down for 18 months, I'm sure they will add more time. I highly recommend this tour to see the sights of the city, rum tasting, coffee tasting, wine tasting, and shopping.

It was OK. Shopping was not on our own. Guided to a jewelry, coffee and chocolate shop. I think the tour guide gets a cut of the sales. Lift to the top of the mountain was closed down and we were not informed however the driver drove us which was nice however the driver took a total of 2 hours which really took a bite out of our other tour time. The guide was friendly but not very informative. Would have liked to know more about the history and culture of the area. The meal was great and very much a part of the culture.

Honestly such a great experience and tour! Went with my family and parents and it was then perfect pace for everyone and we were able to cater the tour to do more of the things we wanted. The tour guide was amazing and super nice and helpful! Couldn’t recommend this tour more if you’re looking for an authentic experience during your cruise port!

Diana and Antonio are the absolute best! Muy Excellente! I mistakenly selected the wrong hotel on my booking and it caused us to get a late start, but Diana took it in stride and picked my wife and I up in her personal car so that we could join up with the group and make tour. The group I was a total of 5 people including my wife and me. If the group were angry that we caused delay, no one said anything and we did not feel any tension at all.

We started with a cable car ride to the top of the mountain and then a leisurely hike through the gardens of the national park at the top. Diana is very, very knowledgeable about the about the national park, gardens as well as plants and animals in the area. She also told us a lot about the island history, politics and culture. We had a great time learning and experiencing a bit of the Dominican Republic away from the resorts.

Then we went to the rum warehouse for a tour. The grounds owned by the rum company (Macronix) were really well taken care of and looked brand new. The tour itself consisted of a quick presentation and then a short video, followed by the tasting. Of course, the tasting was the best part. Given 5 different rums to taste, and retaste if necessary you will not leave disappointed. After the tasting, you can go to the gift store and purchase some rum and souvenirs as well as a cerveza or some Mamajuana at the bar in the gift shop.

After the tour of the gardens, we had a chance to shop for some souvenirs and get a quick snack (if you wanted). The empanadas were 85 pesos (cash) and tasted fantastic. We then took the cable car back down to the parking lot and started off on a tour of Puerto Plata. We walked around the central plaza, went in the cathedral, the pink road, the umbrella road and then had lunch at a local restaurant on the beach.

The lunch was great and we were all stuffed afterward. We had some chicken with rice and beans as well as plantains and some vegetables. There was some hot sauce on the table that I forgot to buy when I was done, but it was the best part of the meal for me. Not that the meal was lacking in any way at all...it was not, it was delicious!

After lunch, we had a quick walk along the beachfront (paved) from the restaurant to the Fort. The fort was built by the Spanish in the 16th century and along the way there is a touristy sign and amphitheatre you can explore. The fort was really cool and there is a self guided audio tour that takes about 15 minutes. We finished up quickly, took some pictures and then met Diana for the final part of the tour.

Finally, we were whisked off to the chocolate company (Del Oro) and did a tour of their facility. It started with a sample brownie and some hot chocolate (pass, it was 92 degrees F) and then sat for a short video. We then were walked through the chocolate making process from start to finish, ending in, of course, a tasting. There is a gift shop and restaurant/bar if you want to experience a bit more, but we were late and they were closing so we did not try that part of the experience.

We were all done at that point as it was a long day. Diana and Antonio took everyone back to their resorts and were very appreciative of our business and having shared time together. We had a blast and would definitely do anything with them again. They do other tours, so make sure you ask them what else they can show you. They live in the area, are married and own a local mini market. They are entrepreneurs for sure and I know they will be successful in whatever they try to do. Keep up the fantastic work!

The trip is exactly as it was described. What made the trip so enjoyable was our wonderful tour guide, Diana. She was terrific! She was friendly, engaging, has a wealth of knowledge and was so patient with us. She came all the way out to Cabarete to pick us up for the trip which we know was out of the way for her. She helped us shop, was willing to do what we needed, and gave us plenty of time to look around. Oh and did I mention lunch was delicious as well?? I would definitely recommend her tour group.

The Puerto Plata tour was amazing! We had a large group (7 folks) so we’ve opted for a private tour. Antonio was the best tour guide, always patient and flexible with our needs. He was super knowledgeable of the area and history and was even receptive of countering opinions. My family is from Dominican Republic but we’ve been living in the U.S. for years so we knew the culture and history well. Having a tour guide who was receptive to differing opinions was a plus! Diana was also super helpful during the prep process, and was great in communicating our needs during pickup. She even provided a discount after we’ve added a last minute person to our group. I highly recommend this tour (and Antonio) to anyone looking to tour Puerto Plata.

This was Unique experience. I am so glad we were not afraid to go outside of the ship port . We were welcomed as soon as we walked outside the port and followed instructions that were emailed to us . Bring your cash to pay !! Our guide Winston was amazing. We had someone in our party with Some limitations and he was very considerate. We never felt rushed and he was always answering our questions and providing us with history about island and stops we made . We saw historical spots , beautiful water views, amazing flowers and the top thing was the tram ride down out of the clouds. Hope you enjoy as much as we did . Bring a snack with you .
