Capture the thrill of backcountry Hawaii

There are some places you just can't get to on horseback, and this off-road experience gives you a backstage pass to the very best Gunstock Ranch has to offer. Get a look behind the scenes at grazing cattle and native wildlife, and sample some tropical fruit if it's in season. Our guides will narrate it all and bring to life the stories and hidden gems of the ranch. You'll see favorite spots like the Hidden Cave, WWII historical sites, and filming locations for TV. Then top it all off with a delicious picnic lunch overlooking awe-inspiring views of Oahu’s North Shore.

This adventure is only booked for your private group so you can share memories with your loved ones and enjoy quality time together. There’s no feeling quite like trekking through the Hawaiian countryside, far from the sounds of traffic and the city. We look forward to taking you there!

The guide, Isa, was very informative and friendly. I went with a Deaf friend who uses American Sign Language (ASL), and she was fluent in ASL. We were thrilled. The scenery and explanations of the area were great.

This was our first time doing an activity at Gunstock Ranch, and we had chosen to do the 1-hour ATV tour. Our guide was Issa (not sure of the spelling so please forgive me if I misspelled it), and she was a very pleasant and knowledgeable guide, perfect for the task. She quickly established a comfortable atmosphere by checking with us (myself, my wife and my daughter) our comfort levels for speed. As we got on our way, we were treated to some very beautiful scenery and landscape on the property. Some of the notable sights included a cabin that was built as a part of a Hawaii Five-O episode, a cave that was once underwater and feeding some cows along the way.

The cabin was really neat and it looked like it belonged on the ranch as it fit in well with the landscape. Apparently, once the production of the episode was complete, it was decided to leave it in place. Again, it really fit in and was a neat point of interest along the way. The cave entrance is very unassuming, and one could easily bypass it if you didn't know it was there. We stopped and were able to get out to take a look. There were some rudimentary steps that were built to ease one's way to the bottom, a very short walk down. Immediately, you could feel the temperature difference and it was rather cool. We were told that when the ranch used to be a part of the Kahuku Sugar Plantation, workers would often come here to find some relief from the heat above. There is a rock formation at the bottom that looks like a face out of a Lord of the Rings movies... pretty cool! While the cave doesn't really go far, there is a small opening at the back where an employee was able to squeeze in and crawl for a good amount of time to get to another part that opened up into a larger space. As we continued along the trail, there were spots where you could see spectacular views of the north shore towards the PCC and beyond.

Of course, what would a visit to a ranch be without interacting with some cows? We stopped at an area where there were lots of cows... angus, longhorns, etc. There were alfalfa cubes provided to feed these friendly bovines which my daughter eagerly did. They swarmed the ATV and we had to push away some overly eager ones. It was a lot of fun to see these cows up close and we were rewarded by a good dose of cow slobber to show, hahaha!

If you are looking for something fun to do on the weekend, give Gunstock Ranch a try. This is a hidden gem that is well worth your time and is sure to be an enjoyable and memorable experience for all.

Jessica at Gunstock Ranch was our wrangler guide. We stayed at Waikiki so seeing another side of Oahu was terrific. We really enjoyed the private picnic under the banyan tree!

I cannot say enough nice things about our guide on the UTVs. Due to some circumstances out of all of our control prior to our ride. We were not having the best of days. Our guide was able to turn everything around and made the end of our day a good one and an adventure we will talk about for a long time. The service here was amazing from the ranch hands to the guides, and the management staff. I would definitely go back here again!

Of all the things we did in Hawaii, this was one of the best! Our drivers/guides Ocean and Jessica were friendly, knowledgeable, and a lot of fun. The picnic lunch was tasty and filling. The sites we saw were breathtaking! Definitely worth it! Oh, and we got to feed the horses and goats!

The ‘adventure’ was billed to be 2 hours but only lasted 1..5 hours. The wranglers were nice and the lunch was OK but other than that it be hardly called an adventure? When we did have an opportunity for a photo op, wranglers took pics with their cameras and left little opportunity for guest pics.. Hardly worth the price but it was Hawaii!

The guide was a kind and sweet person but the “adventure” lacked plenty of adventure. The most disappointing part was the lack of transparency regarding the picture taking process. She offered to take family pictures with her phone during the ride but upon returning all the pictures had a charge associated with them. Appeared to be a little deceptive so use your own phone for pictures

I was not expecting the personal treatment we received from our Guide Hayden. The views and the private lunch on the mountain top will be a memory my family will never forget. The bigger Ranches were fine, more touristy. Gunstock gives you a more unique personal experience.
