A staff member from the company will meet you at the hotel, either in the morning or the afternoon, to take you on a tour through La Sabana de Bogota to the town of Zipaquira, which name means 'city of our Father' in the language of the Chibcha. Back in pre-Columbian times, salt around the area was the most important commodity and the ‘salt cakes’ were the only
currency for trading. Over time, technology improved and the muiscas began to extract larger amounts of salt. As a result, an underground salt deposit was formed and it is where the Salt Cathedral was built, 180 meters below the surface. Inside, there is a chapel, “capilla de los mineros” built as a tribute to the Virgin “Our Lady of the Rosary of Guasá” (Guasá means 'mine' in Chibcha). At the end, return to Bogotá

The tour operator did not turn up.

Their explanation for not picking us up was that we booked over the weekend for a Monday morning tour‽ Considering we booked on the Saturday this shouldn’t have been a problem, especially as Trip Adviser sent confirmation.

They did offer to take us the next day but considering we were leaving that day this wasn’t possible. We ended up taking an Uber there which ended up being cheaper and quite ok.

They did process the refund promptly.

I was very delighted with this shared tour to Zipaquera. I booked for shared tour to Zipaquera from Gran Colombia Tours. I was told by their office that instead of me going to the meeting point I would be picked up at my hotel. I was really surprised that they still pushed through with the tour as the other couple in the shared tour cancelled at the last minute. My shared tour turned out to be a private tour for the price of a shared tour. It was an very good treat to me from Gran Colombia.

My tour guide, John Gil Garcia from In Colombia Tourism, has a very pleasant personality and a ton of knowledge about the Salt Catheral in Zipaquera and the town of Zipaquera. I learned so much from him on this tour. He is a tour guide extraordinaire. We even had a mini tour of the town of Zipaquera. He showed me the colours of the old district of Zipaquera. We had a great time eating lunch (trying out local food and beverage) after the tour as well.
I will definitely recommend this tour to Zipaquera which is handled by Gran Colombia and tour guide John Gil Garcia.
