We could not have been happier with the tour or the guide on this full day adventure. We were picked up on time, boarded a comfortable and safe vehicle and most importantly, greeted by a smiling, pleasant, knowledgeable and fun guide. Timur knows his stuff and presents information in a friendly and a “let me share something with you” manner.
There’s plenty to see in this region so you have to be sure to pick a touring company that can help you navigate the area in the most efficient manner. Nomad Steps is that company. Our day started at 8:30AM and we finished back at the hotel at 6:00PM. We enjoyed beautiful vistas, wine, olive oil and port tastings, a river cruise, and an excellent lunch stop overlooking the Douro Valley. As first-timers, this was a perfect full-day’s journey.
Huge thanks to Timur for a really great day filled with history, culture and laughs. Also, we happened to use Nomad Steps services for our journey from Lisbon to Porto a few days earlier. It was another perfect day with multiple stops and great meal, despite some inclement weather. Our family spent two wonderful days with Timur. The first day included a beautiful drive to the Duoro Valley, where we visited two local wineries, took a boat ride and had a delicious lunch with a spectacular view. Timur was very knowledgable about the Douro region and always made sure we were having the best experience. He was also very attentive and took many family pictures for us.
The next day Timur picked us up at our hotel in Porto and drove us to Lisbon where we made stops in Nazare and Obidos. Timur showed us the beautiful historical seaside town of Nazare and explained the history. He also made reservations at the Northspot restaurant where we all shared the most delicious lunch and enjoyed hearing about his experiences. Afterwards, we drove to Obidos where he once again navigated us thru the charming town and escorted us along the medieval walls . Traveling with Timur made it possible to see all of these beautiful towns at a leisurely pace without having to worry about anything because he handled it all! He is punctual, engaging, knowledgeable and kind. I would highly recommend Nomad Steps as you will definitely not be disappointed!

We were out with Timur all day today. We visited two vineyards and went on a boat ride. We had a fantastic lunch in one of the most beautiful places on earth! Timur is a great guide! He is well worth the five stars (where is the option for 6 stars?) Nothing is too much for him! He is gallant, gives a lot of information and tips, also for the coming days, and very friendly! Wii would recommend it to everyone and next time we will definitely choose Timur from Nomad Steps again! It was a fantastic day, best day trip ever!

My family of four enjoyed a fabulous Douro Valley wine tour with Timur. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and took time to answer all of our questions. He was prompt and picked us up from our apartment in Porto in a safe air conditioned van. We had an amazing time at the wineries he picked out. The wines were delicious and we enjoyed the gorgeous views! We also loved the restaurant he suggested for lunch as well as the lovely boat tour along the Douro River. He was very attentive and made several stops for our children. We would absolutely recommend this tour with Timur!

A day with Timur Nishan in the Duoro Valley is a special treat . A day filled with knowledge , information and spectacular scenery . Timur planned the perfect day for us including a trip to 2 wineries. A boat ride and an elevated lunch with the ultimate views and outstanding cuisine .

Thank you Nomad Steps for two truly wonderful days exploring the Douro Valley, Nazaré and Obidos. We cannot recommend Timur and Nomad Steps highly enough. Both trip itineraries were thoughtfully designed to fully relax and enjoy the experiences without any hassle or worry on our part. From the views and history of Nazaré and the medieval Obidos to the boat ride and breathtaking views of the Douro Valley and the two wineries we visited offering unique tours of their facilities and wonderful tastings, everything was organized and professional. Timur even went out of his way to make sure our 15 year old son enjoyed himself. Timur’s knowledge is immense as is his kindness. His love of history, language and Portuguese culture was evident in his descriptions and our conversations. We enjoyed learning all we could from him and sharing a phenomenal meal. We will absolutely schedule another tour with Timur next time we are back in Portugal.

Timur made our experience of exploring the Douro valley unbelievable. We didn’t know much about the Douro valley or port wine but he was very knowledgeable and provided insight that other port wine tours didn’t mention. He was extremely kind and catered to our every need. He went above and beyond to make sure our trip was unforgettable. He even dropped us off at the beach and helped us get into a very popular restaurant when we were finishing our tour. I would HIGHLY recommend his tours and have already recommended him to friends who are going to Portugal next month. I would give more than 5 stars, if possible.

My husband and I were so excited about touring the Duoro Valley. We could not have had a better experience! Timur is so knowledgeable, professional and competent. He took care of every detail and answered every question we had. The wineries and restaurant he reserved for is were amazing! We recommend this tour 100%!!!

I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get the most out of their visit to the Duoro Valley, especially if you only have one day to do so. This tour combined all the elements one should cover while visiting this beautiful area of Portugal. But what makes the tour exceptional is Timur who seamlessly moves you from one area to the next. He was most attentive to our needs and made sure we had the feeling of leisure and never rushed our visits to the vineyards and lunch. As mentioned by other reviewers, we were introduced to a small boutique vineyard that had excellent offerings of white, rose and red wine that were very unique and delicious. Olive oil and honey tasting were also offered. After lunch at a lovely location overlooking the river we headed to Sandeman which is a larger production vineyard. The port wine tasting was excellent and even there, Timur was prepared to help us pair our port with chocolate! The day started at around 830 AM and we were back by 7PM.
We also travelled to Lisbon from Porto and visited Eveiro, Coimbra and Obidos. The visit to the University in Coimbra and the beautiful village of Obidos and its city walls were the highlights of the visit. Timur picked us up around 930 and dropped us off in Lisboa by 8PM so we could catch our flight out the next day. This part of his tour is customaziable which is a great option to be able to get to those parts along the way that most interest you.
Timur conducts his tours with professionalism and full of history as you are driving. We appreciate the multiple pictures he took of our family to capture those special moments. I highly recommend this tour if you are a family with children or have special needs for parents traveling along to make the journey more comfortable. His van has a lot of space and was so much easier to transport our luggage then trying to navigate on a train. Thank you Timur for a wonderful experience.
