In Turkey, in a living of comperatively conservative cultures and traditions we live, weddings are a important element of people socially expressing themselves. A lot of people could meet at weddings and then get married. Therefore, halay and other folk dances are an important way of self expression.
Although this starts as a social expression, it is also a great meditation when you can feel the balance of the mind and the body in the flow of the music. That's why, we truely find all kinds of folk dances unique and definitely advice all travelers from different cultures to come experience these feelings with us, at our home environment. Amazing experience! Vibes were great, we felt right at home and had a wonderful time full of laughs while we learned the different steps of the various dances we performed… the whole experience felt like you were just trying something new with a group of friends. We also learned a lot about Kurdish culture and the context for said dances, as well as being treated to coffee and some great conversations. Definitely one of the best experience you will find in the area to actually meet locals, do something unique, and make new friends! Highly recommend.
