We chose this tour because of the small group size and being able to customize the tour. Unfortunately I found out the day before our tour that our cruise ship changed from the Kobe port to the new Osaka port which opened May 1, long after I booked the tour. I tried numerous times to call the local number for Konnichiwa Japan and got no answer and no response from text messages left. Also left messages for Viator with no response until after we left Kyoto. Konnichiwa Japan should NEVER be a local company used by Viator. We have used Viator many times and been pleased. I have requested a refund as of May 19 and still have no response. If I am not refunded for this expensive tour I will cancel my 2 future Viator tours and go with a different tour company.

I recently reviewed this tour and gave it a one star because I couldn't give it a no star. However I wish to update my review because of how pleased I was with Viator for resolving my issue so quickly. To recap briefly, I purchased this tour which was supposed to be for a max of seven or eight of us. It quickly became 29 before leaving the port. After the first stop we picked up another group from Tokyo and some of us were asked to sit on fold out seats in the aisle. As you can imagine coordinating such a large group caused much inconvenience not to mention reducing our itinerary. The tour leader said he would look into partial refunds. Within two days of posting my original review, I received notification from Viator they were looking into the matter and within 5 days had processed a full refund. I would definitely use and recommend Viator in the future but steer away from Konichiwa Japan tours.

Booked tour stating for a SMALL GROUP OF TEN people. Before we left the port the group had grown to 24. After first site seeing stop group grew by another 30 plus people filling a full large bus. This was not what we had booked or paid for and expressed strongly our disappointment.
Viator apologised profusely assured us there would be a partial refund and we would hear back within 72 hrs, still waiting !
Resulting from this we were unable to see some of the highlights that were advertised as part of your.

Don’t advertise what you can’t deliver !

This was a con rip off false advertisement. Dishonest tour should be scrapped impossible to walk. 5 hours before we saw. 2 nd site. Wife and I slightly disabled 4 people left the tour spent 380$ on taxi. Back to Kobe. Wife almost fainted. Tour staff were understanding But we won’t our money. Back. As no indication of a walking tour. And no warning of the extreme difficulty it’s a con. Will be telling all to stay away from u tours. Please refund our money as we didn’t do it.

This was easily the worst tour we have been on. There were so many missed temples and shrines. I can’t even list them here. We basically accomplished two things in a full day of riding trains and walking 15,000 steps . we saw the bamboo Forest and the Golden Palace, that’s it. We were a group of about 12 people from a Holland America cruise, cruises known for having old people, we may have been the youngest in the group at 66. I know at least one man was 82 15,000 steps for an 82-year-old is huge. This kind of information needs to be in the description of the tour. This was strenuous, and it needed to be said .
The young couple lead us were delightful, but unprepared for 12 old not in very good shape people. They walked at too fast a pace but the young man did pick up all the stragglers on a regular basis.

Overall, a very disappointing day, the worst part was we were so worn out that we had to give up our next day/port. So really this tour was a two day wash for us.

1) Prior to the tour there was NO communication with the guide despite multiple attempts until the night before. 2) On the day of the tour the guide was an hour late arriving at the cruise ship terminal. 3) 19 people were awaiting the guide who offered no explanation or apology for the delay (the description on Viator stated there would be a maximum of 10 people with a cost adjustment); 4) no itinerary was given and the guide was very unsure of transportation connections; 5) the guide did not make herself heard to the whole group and often out paced the the group leaving us out of sight; 6) we received very little commentary about the various sites visited; we simply followed the flag from place to place;
7) we made it back to the port to board the ship with only 15 minutes to spare. We rated it as POOR, but in reality it was TERRIBLE, and we would not recommend it.

Guides arrived at meeting point 45 minutes later than Viator told us to expect them, they wore no identifying shirts and were hard to find. Cute couple with adequate language skills but poorly organized - actual itinerary bore little resemblance to what was advertised (two sites!) despite running long. Stairs and exclusive use of public transit not suitable for many in our group. Very little historical information imparted at all. Disappointing to say the least.

Buyer Beware! My story is short as I do not believe the operator turned up on the day. So no tour for us!!! I notified them the night before that our cruise ship would be docking late, which they acknowledged. On the day it took a while to get off the ship and we scoured the Kobe terminal looking for someone with the sign they said they would display. I asked other operators with signs if they were aware of our company and none were. As a last resort we went to the tourist information centre at the Kobe terminal who rang them on our behalf and got no answer they also had not heard of the operator in question. After disputing the tours validity with Viator and asking for a refund (over $400 AUD) I was told NO. They had looked into the matter and were happy with their conclusion. Needless to say we are not and will NEVER use this company again. I reiterate Buyer Beware!!!!

Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, Nijo Castle, Ginkakuji Temple, Tenryuji Temple were all on the literary, but we did not visit any of them. We spent more time on trains and cabs than we did sightseeing. To start with, the hosts were 45 mins late. We were told to meet on the 1st floor, when infact they showed up on the 3rd floor. The phone number on the ticket was no longer in service. It appeared there was no plan because they kept asking where we wanted to go. They offered to take us to one more place, but had we taken them up on it, we would have missed the ship. I do not recommend this tour.
