Our client's teacher, Kengo is a skilled Kendo player who started Kendo at the age of 3 and won 3rd place in the Japan tournament. I am very confident in my Kendo skills and knowledge. You can learn about the culture of the Samurai through this experience. The main event of the experience is cutting tatami mats using a Japanese sword. Please rest assured that Kengo will provide careful guidance. We will also be happy to help with video and photo shoots.

Amazing trip!
I came across the Kendo experience course by chance. Since we can communicate in Japanese, Kengo-san said that he was very happy to convey some more authentic Kendo culture and spirit in Japanese. Some of his previous medals and trophies were placed in the dojo. According to him, he started practicing Kendo at the age of 3, and won the highest honor award in the All Japan Kendo Competition when he was a teenager. He taught us very patiently. In addition, he can also make ninja shuriken and other knives, which is a completely different experience point from other ninja experience courses, because his hometown is a very famous place in Japan for producing knives.
Finally, he took us to try the real samurai sword and practice Kendo with a real sword.

Kendo is an amazing sensei. Talking about the differences and similarities of the martial arts we practice, and trying the basics of kendo was very interesting.
The tameshigiri was the best part of the experience.

It was a real fun experience. Great teacher, his English was quite good and the instructions he gave were clear and fun.
The tatami slice was the highlight.

I initially got lost because the place is located in the outskirts of Kyoto and there were barely any people on the streets to ask for direction. But as soon as I found the place and met Kengo, the Kendo instructor, I completely forgot that I almost quit looking for the place. Kengo is very nice and very knowledgeable about kendo. He also tried to contact me when I didn’t reach the place on time. Kengo has been very encouraging and took nice photos and videos for the experience. I got to hold a real katana and was able to cut a tatami mat with it in one stroke! Quite an experience that I will never forget! I have dreamed of doing this as I have been a fan of the anime Samurai X. I believe this experience is a must for those who wanted to experience more of the Japanese culture!

The place was a bit far and a bit hard to find but we are happy that we made it there! Kengo was very friendly and we could feel his passion for kendo. He was a good teacher. However, his English wasn't very good and communication was a bit laborious. So except to use Google translate.
We learned about kendo tradition, how to take the sword in and out, proper posture and how to cut efficiently. Unfortunately, while the experience is supposed to be 2hours, a lot of time was spent on small talk/taking photos/ getting dressed. And not enough in practicing the sword. I felt like with the time we had, we could have practiced more techniques, for example learning how to fight. Or different way of cutting. For that price, a bit more could be expected.

Located out of the way, so let google maps get you there.

Being introduced to the art of Kendo in such a peaceful and pleasant environment on the outskirts of Kyoto was truly a wonderful experience; and an excellent to escape the crowds in the city. Even with near to no knowledge of the matter at all, the professional hosts and kendōka laid out the basics of the sport und offered an understanding to the underlying culture in a very inviting and light spirited manner. Of course staged photos with dressing up and spectacular sword scenes were an essential part of the action. But a part from that you really got to dive into a different world in the atmosphere of an old Japanese dojo with many a story to tell. For me this is definitely a highly recommended activity, totally worth the time and the money.

It was an incredible experience! We had the opportunity to capture some fantastic photos, dress in traditional kendo armor, and perform authentic katana cutting exercises. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, making it a truly delightful experience. 😊
