Being able to snorkel in the Silfra fissure is a privilege that mother nature literally opened up for us. Silfra is a big 'crack' in the ground located in Thingvellir on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge formed as two tectonic plates move apart from each other.
The benefits of choosing the wetsuit option is you can dive down and have the most unique perspective, seeing above and below the water. This choice is popular for scuba divers who do not have the required certifications for the scuba dive. If you're not a confident swimmer then the drysuit can be a better option.
Prior experience snorkeling/ diving will help you greatly to dive down but is not necessary. You can book the drysuit option on another listing for you or other people in your group for the same time tour.
We always have small groups, 6 people per guide. This allows for a more closer and personal feel. If you have a group of 7 or more you can be together preparing your equipment but in the water some of you will be separate.

This was one of the highlights of my trip in Iceland! The water is amazingly clear and you’re able to see a lot of the rock structures under which is incredible! I would not miss this experience since it is so unique to snorkel in between plates and see amazingly clear water. If you’re worried about swimming or being cold, it’s not really cold at all w the dry suit:) Dori was our guide and she’s the best:) clear instructions and very professional! We had a lot of fun with her and she took some pretty good photos!

Incredible experience! Gretar was a great guide who shared his knowledge about the area on the drive and while in the water. 100% must do experience!

I had the best time on this snorkeling experience! I was admittedly wary of how cold the water would be, but the dry suit definitely works and felt fine throughout. The experience itself was incredible - the waters are pristine, the rock formations are interesting and everything just makes you appreciate the beauty that is Iceland. Our guides of course Gretar and Oliver were incredible as well. They were friendly and I could tell they love Iceland and teaching others about their home. They also gave us clear instructions, helped us with the equipment and I felt like I was in good hands. A must do!

Amazing! I was scared that I would chicken out and so glad that I didn't! I was a solo traveler and was a little anxious I wouldn't have someone to talk to and help calm my nerves, but I was just fine. What an amazing experience. I snorkeled on 2/15/2024 and it was snowing out before our excursion began as we neared the water. The suit is uncomfortable, not going to lie but it keeps you warm and dry and that's the point! The water is so clear and beautiful. Drink the water! It's like nothing you've tasted ever before. I got a little nauseous at the end (sometimes that happens to me when I snorkel) and my guide Kevin was super helpful to me. He stayed with me until we got out of the water and continued to check on me until we made it back to the sprinters. Seriously, he is the BEST! He also took wonderful photos of all of us before we got into the water, and after which was a nice memory to have. If you don't have a picture, it didn't happen! :-)
Thank you again Kevin. You calmed me down and that hot chocolate made my tummy feel so much better after. This is a wonderful excursion to take. Don't let it pass you by!

What an experience!!!
The 1st half is alot of faff, we waited over an hour in pouring rain at a bus stop to be picked up then when you arrive you have to get all kitted out (which is not easy) but once you get in the water it is totally worth it all!
We opted for the dry suits in end as it was so cold, you keep a base layer on then pop a jumpsuit on then the dressing which the instructor help you with, it is very tight and quite uncomfortable but this kept you completely dry and dare I say warm, I wasn't cold at all in water (other people were)
Anil was our instructor and he was brilliant from start to finish. He was very patient with us (some of us were quite nervous)
The water is crystal clear, nothing like I have ever seen, definitely a once in a lifetime / bucketlist experience.highly recommend

While I probably wouldn't do this again, it was super cold....I am glad I did and would recommend others to as well! Great experience and top notch service from the driver and guides.
TIPS: The pictures included turned out great, no complaints; however if you have your own GoPro, be sure to bring it. And while the equipment provided was decent, if you have a nice snorkel mask at home, I would recommend that. Also, packs some 'hot hands' hand-warmers, they will prove to be useful.
