Part our own fault, we didn't realize what we signed up for. So I'm writing this to clarify for other visitors. First, our tour guide Maria was wonderful - she is friendly, knowledgeable and organized. She shared numerous details of history and life in Berlin and Potsdam as she led the group on and off the trains and buses and through the Neuen Garten woods. Second and most importantly, this is not a tour focused on Potsdam center, the city life, architecture, art or palaces (it does end at Sansoucci and you should know to book your interior tour tix ahead of time - we booked at 3:45 at the suggestion of the tour manager). Know that more than half the walking and most of the day is spent outside Potsdam center. From 10-11 you meet up and travel from Berlin to Potsdam (easy, expected). From about 11-1:30 you walk and bus around the Bridge of Spies and wooded trails of Nördliche Vorstädte. There's a 30-min stop to get a bite to eat. The bus then takes the group into town. Around 2pm, with an hour left to the tour before they would head back to Berlin, we split off to see the impressionist collection at the Barberini Museum (not a tour destination). There was hardly enough time to see the magnificent collection there before we had to head to Sansoucci. If you like impressionist paintings, do not miss that museum. There was time after Sansoucci to walk through town and get dinner. By then we were of course very hungry. So before you book, know that you won't get to explore a lot of the town sites on your own, except in the evening. Bring food + water with you, and book only if you want to see the outskirts of Potsdam and not the inside of the palaces and museums. Overall, the tour is as advertised, but you need to look at the map and know before you go. (One minor note: James Donovan was a real person)

Guide, Jamie, is a wealth of knowledge. There’s so much to see in Potsdam and having a guide makes it a lot easier to get around. It was a great day out without worrying about where and how.
