What could be nicer on a quiet, sunny day than a trip to the zoo with the family, your partner or even on your own? T The zoo is the only one of its kind worldwide. At 750 meters (about .5 miles), it is Europe’s highest-lying zoo, but it is also easy to get to and not far from the city center.
There are many different animals waiting to be seen at the zoo such as lynx, eagles, fish, and birds, as well as wolves and bears.Spring is a particularly interesting time to visit because that is when young animals are born and there is usually a lot going on! At the petting area, rare and local species of cows, pigs, goats and sheep can be seen up close.

The ride with the Hungerburgbahn starts at the Station Congress near the center of Innsbruck and brings you in 5 minutes to the Station Alpine Zoo, then back again after your zoo visit.

Zoo and funicular - good combo. It was possible to get to the higher point that zoo- Hungerburg, from there the walking path to zoo was closed. Check if the road is open, if you still want to get to Hungerburg instead of zoo station. The zoo is worth checking, very nice, very good conditions for animals.

were there in September with a 3 year old child, it was very nice, lots of animals and a well-kept zoo, big parking lot and lots of space 👍🏻

Awesome! If you follow the bear footsteps, you will come across all the animals and see them from all sides!
The enclosures are nicely tailored to the animals and it was a nice walk. Grandma of 83 was also with us. Some of the steeper paths were a bit of a challenge, but there are plenty of benches everywhere to take a rest.

Together with the Hungerburgbahn this is a nice trip! We took the bus to the Nordkette and the Hungerburgbahn down with a stop at the Alpenzoo

The animals look so sad. Especially the bear and the wolves, which are kept in a tiny enclosure and always run in the same little circle. It breaks my heart.

Beautiful but it must be due to the season or many animals were rarely seen.
Years ago there were at least 6 otters and all lively. Wolves too.
Still beautiful though

We didn't enter due to the enormous rudeness of the blonde at the front office, too stressed by her job. Too bad for our son. Entrance is very expensive even with a welcome card

Beautiful park for children. It is worth a visit of at least half a day. Suitable for strollers.
Very convenient to get there with the funicular that leaves close to the city center. The ticket can be purchased online or at the ticket office at the funicular departure point, also opting for the Alpenzoo+funicular combo.

Inside the zoo there is also a self-service restaurant

Great visit. We spent a couple of hours here when visiting Innsbrook. Plenty to see and lots of information about all of the animals. Some steep hills which some may need to factor into a visit, but this was fine for us. Animals looked happy. Would recommend.

Very beautiful zoo with animals different from the usual zoos... even more characteristic of the place, placed in their natural habitats, such as moose, chamois, ibex and lynx and many others.
The interesting thing is that in some areas you entered right inside the fence 😅... obviously where there was no danger!
Minimal explanations also in Italian, but many interesting things were lost because only in German 🤷🏼‍♀️
The only flaw is that we didn't understand where to take the cable car... so we paid the ticket for both the zoo and the cable car... but in the end we found ourselves directly in the zoo without going through the cable car... this is because it's unclear and all in German! 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

We actually found the zoo itself nice. It was just a bit confusing because you couldn't really see a circular path. The enclosures were great and well-kept.

But now comes the thing:
What didn't work at all was paying for the parking. There were only parking machines where you could only put coins in. Hello, we live in the 21st century. I thought Germany was already poorly developed.
Unfortunately we only had €2 left in coins and got a parking ticket. The parking ticket was valid until 1:58 p.m. We hurried to the zoo so that we didn't go too far over the time limit. We got to the car at 2:12 p.m. Unfortunately 14 minutes late. There was of course a ticket on the windshield wiper with a €25 fine. You really have to have waited until the time runs out. That's what I call a rip-off!
Unfortunately it doesn't work at all. You can pay with a card or app everywhere. It's probably a win-win situation for the zoo and the city of Innsbruck.
