There is no better way to take in the Active Volcano at Rincon De La Vieja than with Jose! On Thursday, May 16, 2024, Jose was my tour guide for one of the most delightful days in the area. Jose arrived in a nice Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle, and we started on our journey. Jose was amazing in his knowledge of the area. It was awesome to spend time in a private setting with Jose to learn about the region and the items that impact the area. Jose is a connoisseur of nature and his knowledge of the volcano area is unparalleled! He can point out animals and creatures that I would have walked by. He has a great route through the park that I would not have taken without his expertise. The National Park is well maintained and has mostly paved paths that take you to see the various volcano areas and boiling mud pits. The park has great full-service restrooms and a nice gift shop for souvenirs. Part of the tour is lunch at a local spot on the way back to the hotel. Having lunch at a local spot is a great way to experience the delicious food that is available. This is also a great time to sit with Jose and learn more about the area. I highly recommend you book a private tour with Jose for the Active Volcano Walk.

We worked with CATours throughout our entire stay at the Westin Playa Conchal and they were some of the most helpful people I've ever traveled with. I had my heart set on the Rincon de La Vieja Volcano Hike and Cristhian Rodriguez did not rest until he found enough people to get the tour booked. And I'm so glad he did because this hike was my absolute favorite tour of the entire trip. The hike was so full of interesting wildlife and natural occurrences such as waterfalls and boiling mud pits. But really what made our experience so phenomenal was our tour guide, Alexander Bermudez. He is one of the most knowledgeable guides I have ever had the pleasure of touring with. He was able to spot out and identify countless bird, insects, monkeys, and more. He was also extremely accommodating. My whole group is very interested in different flora and fauna but also how they work together within an environment. Alex never rushed us and always had an answer to our question. Alex was such an amazing tour guide and we were ecstatic when the next day we discovered he would be our guide again for the river boat jungle cruise. The trail at Rincon de La Vieja is very well maintained and manageable even for those who might not hike or exercise regularly. At the end of the tour we were brought to lunch and a local restaurant where I had one of the best meals of the entire trip. The volcano hike at Rincon de La Vieja is an amazing and unforgettable experience. I don't know how there isn't a waiting list to get on this tour. Seriously. If you have the chance sign up for the Rincon de La Vieja volcano hike and make sure to ask for Alexander Bermudez for the best tour of your vacation.
