The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. The word acropolis is from the Greek words ἄκρον and πόλις.

The Parthenon is a former temple on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patroness. Construction started in 447 BC when the Delian League was at the peak of its power.

The Theatre of Dionysus is an ancient Greek theatre in Athens. It is built on the south slope of the Acropolis hill, originally part of the sanctuary of Dionysus Eleuthereus. The first orchestra terrace was constructed on the site around the mid- to late-sixth century BC, where it hosted the City Dionysia.

The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a stone Roman theatre structure located on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. The building was completed in AD 161 and then renovated in 1950.

The Erechtheion or Temple of Athena Polias is an ancient Greek Ionic temple-telesterion on the north side of the Acropolis, Athens, which was primarily dedicated to the goddess Athena.

The Temple of Athena Nike is a temple on the Acropolis of Athens, dedicated to the goddesses Athena and Nike. Built around 420 BC, the temple is the earliest fully Ionic temple on the Acropolis.

In the shadow of the Acropolis and its ancient temples, hillside Plaka has a village feel, with narrow cobblestone streets lined with tiny shops selling jewelry, clothes and local ceramics. Sidewalk cafes and family-run tavernas stay open until late, and Cine Paris shows classic movies al fresco. Nearby, the whitewashed homes of the Anafiotika neighborhood give the small enclave a Greek-island vibe.

Lively Monastiraki is known for iconic landmarks including the ruins of Hadrian’s Library, the Ancient Agora and the rebuilt Stoa of Attalos, with a museum exhibiting Athenian artifacts. The surrounding streets are crammed with traditional tavernas and restaurants, many with Acropolis views

Maria was a pleasant and extremely knowledgeable tour guide. We learned so much about Greek history, archeology and mythology, as well as the birth of democracy. My only criticism would be that I was expecting the tour to be a little more food-focused than it ended up being. We only had souvlaki and bougatsa, which were both delicious, but expected more food related stops as part of this tour.

Maria was FABULOUS as our guide. She met us at our hotel and catered our walking tour to what we wished to see! We saw the highlights around town and loved the Acropolis. She was very knowledgeable about the history and taught us a lot. We loved sitting outside at the quaint coffee shop, and tasting some authentic greek foods in the square. Highly recommend this tour with Maria as your guide.

What an amazing tour! Our tour guides - Stella for the acropolis and Sophia for the food tour - were so nice and very knowledgeable. We highly reccomend Athens Walking Tours, especially is you don’t have too much time in Athens. Stella taught us so much about Greek history and the Acropolis. Sophia took us to amazing markets, restaurants and a family owned dilstillery with great liqueurs. 5 stars!!

Dorian Theodora was wonderful! She was so incredibly knowledgeable about the Acropolis and related Greek Mythology. The day continued through Plaka, where Dorina told us so much about the Greek neighborhoods and current Greek life. The food was authentic and truly delicious. We accidentally ran into her the next day at the Acropolis Museum, where she again could not have been friendlier and more helpful. We recommend her 1000%. Couldn’t be happier!

Tour guide was very knowledgeable about the Acropolis and Parthenon, and Athens generally. We learned quite a bit. She also gave us great recommendations for lunch, dinner and a place to buy a few last gifts we were having trouble finding! We are very pleased.

It was a very informative and relaxing tour. Our tour guide was very much accommodating to what food, shops, and stops we wanted to make during our time together. Definitely worth the time and money to have a local show us Acropolis.

Myself, my wife and two daughters were so fortunate to have Stelios as our private tour guide! He was so energetic and provided history with so much enthusiasm. As we walked to the Acropolis, Stelios would provide interesting facts as we passed through the neighborhoods approaching the Acropolis. We spent a good portion at each major stop

Our guide, Vicki, was excellent. She handled a last minute issue professionally, imparted just the right amount of knowledge so not to overwhelm us, and planned delicious and ample food tastings. We enjoyed the entire Acropolis and food tasting tour!

We loved our excursion with Artemis! She helped us navigate the Metro, gave us a very good explanation of the Acropolis, and introduced us to favourite Greek food and drink. It was wonderful to have a native of Athens show us around and answer our questions. The personal attention of a private tour is well worth the expense.

My husband and I took this tour in May when Greece first reopened. We have done many private tours and this has to be one of our all time favorites! I was a little skeptical due to the lack of recent reviews but took a chance because I figured a lot of it was because of Covid. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and had some props/renderings to make the Acropolis come alive. Then, she took us to some local food spots and had us try local dishes but ones that we wouldn’t have known about without her (not just Greek salad and baklava). The food was the best we had on our trip and we were stuffed by the end.

A wonderful tour that anyone should book who is visiting Athens and wants a mix of history and great food. Highly highly recommend!
